What you'll do

The experience is a guided hike which features local knowledge and information centered around the City of Boulder Mountain Parks, otherwise known as Chautauqua Park.

The Chautauqua Park has been in operation since 1898 and we will start our day by meeting near Chautauqua Park for a cup of coffee or snacks.

We'll then head into the Boulder Flatirons to hike and enjoy the Flatirons and views of Boulder, an experience similar to what visitors to Boulder would have done 120 years ago.

Included in your trip is information on where to meet, to park, a what-to-bring-hiking checklist, and your knowledgeable guide for the day. The day will last between 3 and 4 hours.

Depending on timing and interest we may stop for drinks or post-hike snacks at the Chautauqua Dining Hall.

Be prepared for walking up to 5 miles with some elevation gain. That said, I will do my best to cater to your needs and abilities to ensure that you have the best day out possible. We have a saying around Boulder, "No bad days."

With our excellent local food, 300 days of sunshine, and unparalleled access to the Colorado outdoors, it's saying that we find easy to live by ourselves.

Meet your host, Matt

Host on Airbnb since 2019
  • Identity verified
I am the co-owner and lead guide of Apex Ex Colorado, an outdoor adventure company based in the Front Range of Colorado.

When it's warm and dry I rock climb, run, and hike, and when it is cold and snowy I snowshoe, ice climb, and ski. I work in Colorado during the fall and winter, and guide glaciated volcanos in Washington State during the summer.

Guiding is about sharing time with people in amazing places. Each day spent outside is another opportunity to learn about the unique human and natural history of a place and our connection to it. You'll often find me romping around in the Boulder Creek Watershed or in Rocky Mountain National Park on my "off" days.
