What you'll do

This experience is a photographer's walking tour of the Toronto Distillery District. This historic landmark boasts some of the most photographed locations in Toronto. The distillery district was a real "Distillery" and commercial hub starting in 1832. The location now is a pedestrian-friendly collection of perfectly preserved buildings with cobblestone walkways and old relics, making for great imaging. As a popular tourist spot, photographing people amongst the buildings, shops, and restaurants add additional opportunities for great imaging.

The tour will begin at the Western entrance (entrance is free) of the district and wind our way eastward through the buildings, streets, shops, and great places to get great images. The district is now a thriving location for shopping and cuisine giving visitors an unmatched opportunity to photograph Toronto, its history, and visit an important Canadian landmark. Attendees will have the opportunity to shop and eat before and after the tour.

My philosophy to encourage creativity is to take visitors to the opportunities, point out some of the possibilities, and allow the photographer sufficient space to develop a creative environment.

Hi, I am the Photographer behind Estate Photo Art, a commercial photography business in Toronto. I have had the opportunity to travel the world and photograph many incredible places. My philosophy is to create beautiful images of ordinary "things". My photography is defined by composition, lighting, and perspective, placing my emphasis behind the lens and less in post-processing. This experience is designed to stimulate photographic creativity by visiting important Toronto landmarks that also make for great imaging.

I have over 40 years as a dedicated Nikon photographer. From film to digital platforms, I greatly enjoy the creativity, mated with the technical challenges of making great photographs. I also greatly enjoy passing along my knowledge, tips, and experience(s).
Cheers!

Where you'll be

The Toronto Distillery District was established in 1832 and was a working commercial centre. The buildings have been pristinely preserved and redeveloped to become galleries, shops, offices, and restaurants. It is a pedestrian-friendly location with 19th-century architecture, cobblestone walkways, and numerous antique relics. This historic landmark is one of the most important locations for imaging in Canada.

My husband, daughter and myself toured the historic, beautiful and entertaining Distillery District with Jonathan who is a highly knowledgeable professional photographer and a great human being. My daughter is beginning to develop quite a serious photo hobby and Jonathan gave her so many precious tips on learning how to look around, spot and create valuable souvenirs not to mention all the technical tips. Thank you so much Jonathan.

Jonathan is WONDERFUL. I was the only one on the tour so I had the opportunity to get one on one time taking great photos and basically enjoying a lovely evening around the Distillery District. We had great conversations about the LGBTQ community and Canadian politics. So interesting! I learnt so much in that hour - highly recommended!
