If you're looking to get a glimpse of a more rural side of Japan that can't be easily accessed via public transport, then Yoshi's experience might be for you. He tailored the experience to match our requests, and the results was a truly unique afternoon that would have otherwise not been possible. We met interesting people, we saw old buildings, we had a cool photo shooting, we saw several unique temples, etc.

If you’re looking to explore the heart of rural Japan and walk off the beaten path, then this is definitely the tour to participate in. Our host, Yoshi, is immensely knowledgeable of the Onan area of Western Japan, its history and associated folk tales. An easy and very scenic 90 minute bus ride from Hiroshima Station brought us into the mountainous village and our escorted driving tour started with the ancient Shizunoiwaya Shrine dating to the 1700’s and the Sairen-ji Temple (circa 1500’s). We walked ancient stone paths and drank from crystal clear springs, illustrating the unspoiled nature of the area. The cool forest and tall trees allowed for a reasonably challenging nature walks, and even in the heat of the summer, the paths were abound with abundant regional species of mushrooms and local flora. Our host drove us to several rarely seen sites harboring abundant paths, natural monuments, several waterfalls, shrines, and most interesting - the habitat of the rare Japanese giant salamander. We strongly recommend the tour, and appreciate both our kind host and the rare experiences offered by this often missed serene regional hamlet.
