What you'll do

Come for birdwatching in the Yungas Cloud Forest above the city of Salta. This lush forest supports an incredible diversity of bird species.

We will meet at your place, and then go to the forest. Inside the forest you will feel the freshness of the environment, which is often enveloped by clouds generated by tropical air as it rises over the mighty Andes. We will walk sharing mates (argentinian tradition), while looking for endemic birds of the Yungas.

After that, we will head to Campo Alegre dam in search of aquatic fauna. We will have lunch with a beautiful panoramic view of the lake and its surrounding mountains. Finally, we will start our way back to Salta city.

If you are an avid birder, then this is your experience! If you are not, this is a great opportunity for learning, and who knows, become a birder after this?

Hello! It’s Fabricio and Emiliano, your hosts. We both have a Bachelor of Science, with a specialization in Ecology. At the moment, we are in Graduate School conducting research here in Salta. I (Fabricio), study migratory birds, while Emiliano is interested in birds called Crakes. We are passionate about nature and its conservation, and this is exactly what joined our destinies. We love Salta’s nature and landscapes, and have a great time hiking around discovering new species and places. Join us on the adventure!

This was the most amazing day! It was my birthday and I'm fairly new to birdwatching. I love the outdoors and hiking, especially in more secluded and remote places. Nothing bothers me more than people playing music on a trail. Guess what? None of that here, just the wind occasionally, the distant sound of villagers here and there. And bird songs. SO MANY songs. Emiliano was our guide for the day. He took his time to get us acclimated to the yungas, gave us tips on how to walk up and down the trails so we wouldn't fall. Then we started birding. He had excellent binoculars and a tripod-based telescope that meant we could see every feather on the rare and beautiful birds like brightly colored Saffron finches and quick moving flycatchers. At one point he played a recording of one bird's call (song) and after a few minutes, birds started popping up near us! It was incredible! He had expert knowledge of the area and all of the birds. Definitely recommend this once in a lifetime experience if you enjoy the outdoors, new vistas and of course, birds :)

Although I like nature and birds, I m not a birdwatcher. But this experience was really nice to get to know more about the nature around Salta and birdwatching and was so different from all the other things I ve done. It was a great day and I m happy to have done this experience. Fabricio is a very sympatic person with a lot of knowledge, he talks about birds and a lot of other subjects in a very pleasant way. The locations gave me a different view of the Salta area, and... we ve seen some real nice birds! I loved this day and really recommend this experience!

I'm admittedly not a real birdwatcher, so if I had known that I was signing up with a guy who's writing a doctoral dissertation about the migration of birds within South America, I might have been intimidated. But this was wonderful. He supplied excellent binoculars, pointed out dozens of different types of birds, explained what to look for, showed them to me in the field guide, and kept a list. It was fantastic.
