What you'll do

I will welcome guests to a yard with a magnificent view, decorated with trousseau like items and other wedding artifacts. After knowing each other we would have a cooking lesson preparing a traditional Greek wedding candy. Then we will discuss about the origins of the Greek wedding and its modern existence. Each guest would take a unique presentation “map”. The rituals and symbols of separation (first stage of the wedding) would be presented e.g. ancient purification bath vs spa visits of the bride and her friends. Next, rituals and symbols of transition with hands on experience: creating your own bomboniere, eiresione and ancient Greek wedding bouquet. We will enjoy a sample of local red wine listening to wedding music, representing the ritual of "drinking life from the same glass". We will discuss about the meanings of all these (and more) symbols (fires, crowns, dance, rice, flowers, shoes and of course veil). Later we will discuss about rituals and symbols of incorporation: e.g. the wedding party vs ancient Greek symposium as representations of community acceptance. Finally comes the subject of destination weddings and their role to globalization. We will finish with a free conversation about any relevant subject. During the program you could eat the wedding candy and drink lemon fragranced water. Guests will take the items that they created and the presentation map.
Other things to note
In order to reach the yard you have to climb about 15 steps. The whole event would take place in open space [e.g. no air condition, possibility of insects’ appearance (e.g. bees, flies, mosquitoes) ]. In case of bad weather the event would be canceled. No toilet is available.

Having a MSc in Systems Thinking I worked as a Banking Business Analyst and educator for 30 years. After an early retirement during the last 5 years I worked (among other activities such as wine tasting experiences) as a Wedding Planer assistant. This position gave me the chance to meet brides and grooms understanding how important wedding symbols and rituals are for them. Moreover participating in destination weddings’ planning and execution at Kefalonia gave me the chance to investigate the question “If destination weddings could be used as a tool to support globalization with a human face” and I discovered how complex are the influences that wedding rituals and symbols create to human networks. I believe that learning about their meaning enriches our understanding of humanity’s common roots and brings us together in our common future.

Where you'll be

The whole experience would take place at our cottage’s patio which is plateau like as its position embraces the unique panorama of the region’s characteristic clay geological formations covered with olive trees, merging into the far-reaching iridescent waters of the Ionian Sea and the small deserted island named Vardiani. The ancient wild olive tree would protect us from the summer sun.
