What you'll do

Learn to stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and enjoy a mini SUP safari on the beautiful River Avon with Wittering SUP; an ASI accredited SUP school and a British Canoeing Delivery Partner.

COVID19 LATEST: All our sessions are socially distanced, hygienic and adhere to government guidelines, advice from British Canoeing, the ASI and the Avon Navigation Trust as these evolve over time. Alongside our own internal COVID19 risk assessment standards, we are COVID19 Secure Audited by the ASI.

Perfect for absolute beginners, you'll learn how to stand up paddleboard followed by a peaceful tour of the beautiful river Avon to enjoy the tranquillity, Autumnal colours and local wildlife (kingfishers, deer, herons, wagtails, skylarks, swallows, Canada Geese, swans, buzzards, Red Kites, otters and even rare curlews at moment!).

With an ASI qualified SUP instructor (and all gear provided), you will learn everything you need to start your paddleboarding adventure; how to kneel and ultimately stand on a board, correct paddle-stroke and turning techniques as well as safety and equipment knowledge before we head off on our adventure!

This a very accessible water sport and you don't need any experience to join in. Each session is currently limited to 5 spaces to meet social distancing guidelines.

I've been stand-up paddleboarding for over 10 years and really fell in love with SUP touring the River Wye in Wales on a paddleboard. I desperately wanted to find a way to share the excitement of the world's fastest growing watersport, safely and with as many people as possible; this lead me to become a qualified ASI (Academy of Surf Instructors) SUP Instructor and start Wittering SUP; an ASI Accredited SUP School and a British Canoeing Delivery Partner based on the River Avon. I love how this super accessible activity is as tranquil as it is fun and whilst it disconnects us from screens, urban life and our busy day to day stresses, it reconnects us with our friends and families, the natural world and even ourselves :)

Where you'll be

Wittering SUP is based at Arden Sailing on the River Avon. We'll pass under the ancient Eckington Bridge as we explore the local river as it winds it's way amongst the local wildlife, enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding countryside from Bredon Hill to the Malvern Hills. We're very lucky here; it's a very quiet and peaceful location. We'll be away from roads, towns and the noise of civilization; just us, the water and Mother Nature.

I’d definitely recommend this experience to people wanting to try paddle boarding in a safe and beautiful location. James is an excellent coach and got the balance of teaching, reassurance, safety and fun just right. Our party thoroughly enjoyed our trip down the Avon with James.

Excellent morning! Learnt a new skill and was immersed in the tranquility of the river. James was a wonderful instructor, would highly recommend this activity to anyone considering. I half thought I wouldn’t be able to do it (without getting very wet, at least) but James put me massively at ease and was a great teacher.

We had a wonderful afternoon paddle boarding with James and one other couple on the river Avon. I was initially nervous and unsure that would I be able to do it but James put us all at ease and it wasn’t long before we were all standing up and paddling down the river. It was a very enjoyable 4 hours and would love to do it all over again! We were lucky with the weather and I didn’t actually fall in but, if I had it wouldn’t have mattered anyway! If you get the chance, definitely do this as you won’t be disappointed!

One of the best experiences... do not hesitate to book. From start to finish James was a fantastic host. He was not only incredibly knowledge and passionate about paddle boarding but a brilliant teacher and guide. It was our first experience of paddle boarding and I was definitely apprehensive. James gave us a great briefing and fantastic demo and had us standing up on the board in no time! There was no rush or pressure and whilst my hubby took to it all quickly, I took a little longer to get comfortable. James was SO understanding and patient. He encouraged me consistently and got me up in no time!! I managed to get up five times after that on my own and had such a lovely afternoon on the river. It was quiet, serene, and really beautiful. A great alternative to a boat. All COVID measures in place made us feel safe and the price for the afternoon is very fair for the experience you get. Thank you James for giving us the confidence to paddle board some more in the future!

More tips

It's always nerve-wracking trying something new, especially on the water, but SUP is a safe, accessible activity and we'll take care of you. You may not even get wet!

What to bring

We just ask that you dress for the weather; board shorts and tee shirts are a favourite, or perhaps your yoga outfit on a warm day, maybe a fleece or light wind/waterproof layers or wetsuit during the cooler months.
