What you'll do

This is a wonderful opportunity to hike in a quieter area with unparalleled views of the central Cape Peninsula & Hout Bay from Noordhoek Peak! All the while you'll be hiking with a literal Silvermine local - I actually grew up within the National Park in what's known as the Silvermine Valley. This area is my childhood turf where the mountains were an extension of our garden. We'll spend the morning (or afternoon) hiking a circular trail through diverse mountain Fynbos (pronounced: fane - boss) in the Silvermine section of the Table Mountain National Park. The emphasis is on looking at the details of the unique biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and I will be stopping as we walk to chat to you about the different floral species we see within the Fynbos Biome. I'll walk you through just what makes Fynbos, Fynbos! Depending on the time of year you may see anything from beautiful little blue orchids to magnificent giant pink proteas. Wildlife is shy, however we may possibly see the majestic resident pair of Verreaux's Eagles soaring overhead in search of prey. My hike is on standard trails, so it's for all levels (family friendly), and we'll cover around 7km at an easy pace. In the warmer summer months bring swim gear as you may want to jump into the recreational Silvermine Dam at the end of the trail (when doing the morning schedule).

Justin

Growing up within the boundaries of the incredible Table Mountain National Park I had the mountains of Silvermine as my literal backyard. This is where my love for the Table Mountain range all began! Fast forward 30 years and today I'm a full-time mountain guide in the Western Cape with professional accreditation by the legal bodies in South Africa after starting out in 2007 as a volunteer guide with school children. Sharing my love for nature by leading interpretive nature trails & adventurous hikes across the fynbos covered mountains of the Cape allows me to live out my passion daily. Other interests include photography, writing and enjoying Cape wine with family & friends. I've completed "Supporting the Safety of Women | Travelers & Hosts" seminar facilitated by the National Network to End Domestic Violence (October 5th, 2019)
