Hi my name is Sung! I was born and raised in Hầu Thào village in Sapa. There are 5 ethnic minority groups in Sapa and I am apart of the Hmong ethnic tribe. I live in Ta Van village where I help my in-laws manage Indigo Snail Boutique Hmong Homestay, which is family ran. I do most of the cooking for our guests.

By living here my whole life I can share my culture, family, experiences and traditions with you. I started cooking with my mom and grandmother when I was a little child. Cooking in my culture is something that is taught to you from generation to generation. My grandmother would teach me unique ways to make delicious flavors out of our local grown food.

I look forward to sharing my cooking culture and traditions with you!

I would give 1 star for cooking knowledge, 1 for accuracy of tour, 5 for lovely family, 5 for views, 5 for tasty food. More of a lunch experience than a cooking one. Not an accurate description of experience. It may not always be like this. I was told it started at 7.30am to lrepare. I was told not to come until 9.30am. We were sitting down to eat and almost finished lunch by 11.30am. The cooking side was cutting lots of meat and vegetables and rolling spring roles and stirring food. No cultural or food explanations for anything. Food was very good and plentiful. The course was only 3 hours including eating it. We cut vegetables and meat for other guests that were there for an embroidery course. When it came to cooking we were asked if we wanted to stir. It was not a large group only 3 of us but still there was no special knowledge passed on. Everytime i saw something added to the cooking i asked what it was and was shown a packet written in Vietnamese, no explanation about what it added to the food or how much to put in. Very disappointing cooking experience and way overpriced because of this. Lovely people. I hope they improve on deliveribg what they offer as this could be very good.

If you are staying in Sapa or Ta Van this is a must do, learning how to cook in the traditional way with someone who truly knows what they are doing is an unforgettable experience. We started at 9.30 and were fed and given water throughout the day, after preparing and cooking the food we had a giant lunch of traditional dishes, too much to even eat it all. Well worth doing this experience I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in local culture and cuisine. Sung is an amazing teacher and will make sure you know what you are doing and how to do it properly, she has been cooking since she was 5 years old and the years of experience really show with how comfortable she is in the kitchen, a true professional.

Wonderful in home experience. Was even able to purchase some beautiful hmong textiles when I asked if we could. Felt very much at home and even though the food was basic as stressed by our host Sung, it was very yummy and added to the experience of village living. Straight after I bought some of the ingredients to take home for the easiest spring rolls I have ever made. Thanks Sung 😊
