What you'll do

We will meet you at Papito's Caribbean Bar & after a walk along the sloth trail (with sloth guarantee!) we'll guide you through our chocolate farm & help you spot strawberry poison dart frogs, monkeys, toucans & other birds while we harvest fresh cacao pods for you to taste & you'll learn more about the different types of cacao. We'll then make our way to our chocolate making room where you'll learn how to make chocolate & get to try our artisanally fermented & roasted cacao beans, as well as some of our fresh, made from scratch, chocolate bonbons in dark or milk chocolate. One of our milk chocolate bonbons won first prize on the Showcolate Fair in Bocas this year so we promise you'll be in chocolate heaven! During a lovely walk along the hibiscus path there's some time to greet the farm animals & explore the fruit trees & flowers in Finca Montezuma's garden. We then invite you to discover our favourite snorkeling spot in a cayuco, a local dug-out canoe! If you're lucky you'll even get to see the resident bottle nose dolphins of Dolphin Bay in their natural habitat while making your way to this magical underwater paradise. Explore sea gardens of sponges, anemones and starfish and spot majestic rays and the occasional octopus! The lush mangrove island is also home to birds like pelicans, egrets & cormorants.

Hola, we're Dorien & Papito, a Belgian-Panamanian couple! We bought an abandoned cacao farm in Dolphin Bay in 2014 & started developing it into an active chocolate farm with guest cabins, known as Finca Montezuma. We've been organising fun unforgettable off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities in Dolphin Bay for our overnight Airbnb guests & we're excited to now be able to let more people discover our special corner in paradise! Papito is an experienced captain with extensive knowledge about the best spots around the islands & Dorien is an avid chocolate maker with a great interest in the local fauna & flora.

We had a lovely day with Dorien. She is a gracious and knowledgeable hostess and we enjoyed all aspects of the tour. The cacao was amazing, and her knowledge of the land and history and process was super interesting. Her animals were an added bonus for an animal lover like myself, and the snorkeling was so much fun! I loved her home, it was an authentic experience that I would recommend to other travelers.

This was an amazing experience. Dorien was so welcoming and taught us so much about the cacao plant and the whole process of making chocolate. The samples she gave us were delicious and her farm was so cool. We saw sloths, and frogs and her farm animals and went snorkelling are the end. This was my favourite part of our trip to Bocas!

We enjoyed our visit to Fincas Montesuma. There was good communication @ where to meet in Bocos and Pepito was very accommodating. After our time at the farm, he brought us back to Bastimentos, where we were staying. We truly enjoyed learning about cacao cultivation on a small scale, its history, and experiencing the chocolate making process. Dorian is passionate about her pursuit in this and was so willing to answer other questions @ the local flora and fauna. We felt that the experience was very personalized and comfortable. I have to mention that the chocolates that we sampled were incredible!!

We spent yesterday afternoon with Dorien & Papito and it was wonderful from start to finish. Papito collected us on their boat right on time and the trip out to their home was great. Once there Dorien showed us around their amazing small- holding/ farm. As well as the cacao trees we saw poison dart frogs, sloths and all sorts of other wildlife. Dorien was very knowledgeable and keen to share her passion. We then saw how she makes chocolate and - best of all ate some - delicious 😁 Finally we went snorkelling on the way back to Bocas. All in all great day and good value.
