What you'll do

We will meet up at Camel’s Back Park, and decide which trails we can ride based on the skill level of the group. Don’t worry if you think that you aren’t in proper shape to mountain bike. Even I might have to walk some sections of trail. There are trails we can ride around Camel’s Back Park, or we can head toward the Military Reserve. I have one extra mountain bike with a medium frame that someone can borrow if necessary, but I can also direct you to local rental shops if you’d prefer. Depending on the shop, rentals may have to be made a day in advance. I can provide water and granola bars, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks. Rides can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the group’s skill level and choice of trails. I will have spare tubes with me, and some tools to fix common problems on the trails. Hope to see you out there!

I've been mountain biking for a few years now. I’ve ridden most of the trails around Boise multiple times, and am knowledgeable about the area. I also have a passion for working on bicycles, and have performed trailside maintenance many times, both for myself and for friends. I am not a pro, but I can easily handle the trails around here and have led friends in group rides quite a few times in the past. I can work with people of all levels of expertise and all skill sets, and we can adjust plans for riding based on that. Overall, if you ride with me you’ll be in good hands and you’ll have a great time seeing the beautiful views that Boise has to offer.

Where you'll be

We will be out in the trails behind Camel’s Back Park, in the foothills. These trails are commonly used by hikers, bikers, and dog walkers. Sometimes we can head over to the Military Reserve trails, where you’d see the same types of users, and occasionally horseback riders. The trails at Camel’s Back and the Military Reserve are connected, so we can ride between them if we want. There are also a few other nearby locations we can talk about.

I just moved to Boise and wanted to learn how/where to mountain bike. Johnathan was the perfect host. He has so much knowledge of the area, and taught me a lot about riding. I highly recommend!

Wow! The experience of mountain biking with Jonathan turned out to one of a kind experience that I won't ever forget. On the tour he took the time to get to know me and my experience with mountain biking (absolutely none) to craft truly unique experience for me. Along the journey itself Jonathan taught me about mountain biking etiquette, technique, and always took the time to explain how to handle obstacles before they arose. These things I found to be the most valuable since I have never mountain biked before. Addition I had fun and engaging conversation throughout the entire ride with Jonathan. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to try mountain biking for the first time!
