What you'll do

Explore Calgary's beautiful scenic pathways and cycling friendly roadways while enjoying an experience designed for people who love to explore new cities on bikes. Our local VeloGuide will show you some of the best and safest routes guide you as you ride your way through Calgary's best scenic spots

Start: Bow Cycle and Sports
Bow Cycle is an iconic bike store that has been a fixture in Calgary since 1957! It is located in an up and coming area known as Bowness. Perfectly located to get out on one of several great rides.

From there we will roll out and depending on the group, the VeloGuide will choose an appropriate route where you will get a great feel for the city. For those looking to get in a workout, there will be segments where you can stretch your legs, for a KOM or do a little tempo.

The safety and enjoyment of the guests are paramount to VeloGuide. We will always regroup and if we have larger groups, we will add additional VeloGuides so that each guest can get the most out of the ride.

On the adventure, you will see the beautiful Bow River, the majestic Rocky Mountains and if we are lucky, some local wildlife.

We will finish at a VeloGuide favorite post-ride stop for a nice treat,

My name is Jillian, one of the co-founders of VeloGuide which was launched in October 2017 as a bold new initiative to connect the traveling cyclist with a bike and a guide all across the globe.

We understand that when visiting a big city, getting out on a road bike ride can be overwhelming. Traffic, safe routes, fear of getting lost and finding a bike can make the idea a non-starter. Any of our local Calgary VeloGuides will take all the guesswork out of it and you will truly be able to #ridelikealocal. Their local knowledge and love of cycling make this experience unique!

Where you'll be

We will start at Bow Cycle and Sports in Bowness. This is easy to get to by public transit or ride share. If coffee is a must, we can grab a quick espresso before we roll.

We like to keep this ride a bit fluid and depending on the group and the day we will change up the route. You will be guaranteed to see the beautiful Bow River and some of the nicest pathways and safe paved roadways in North America.

We will end with a fun post ride treat!

Gilles lead us on a beautiful tour of the city along the river. He kept a comfortable pace and shared information about the area as we rode along. Even though it was raining, he was upbeat and we had a great time.

This tour was amazing! We experienced the city in a way we could have never achieved on our own. Jillian was our main contact and Dan was our guide. They both went above and beyond. Jillian was amazing in guiding us through the process of booking and selecting a bike (get the e-bike, trust me, trust Jillian) and she was on top of everything when we had a few issues (nothing major, just some "radio silence" with the rental store regarding extending our rental time... Lol). Dan was incredible nice and friendly, just a great person to hang out with. He took us to so many beautiful sightings I lost count, and he took a lot of great pics of us. He was also very mindful of me and always came back to check on me and was making sure I was doing fine and feeling safe (I got scared a few times because there were quite a few steep curves, so I would stop and walk or just go really slow -- don't be scared though, I'm just a bit of a chicken for that, even in a car haha... My husband was totally ok). He also shared a lot of cool info about the history of the city and the places where we stopped. On top of that he gave us great tips on stuff to do and places to visit on our own. At the end it started raining but we felt safe because Dan was always looking back or riding next to us when possible. We were lucky the rain was just at the end when we were getting back to the bike rental place (Calgary has crazy weather). Even with the rain we were having a great time because you ride alongside the river and it's beautiful. We also felt like badasses riding in the rain LOL. At the end we were soaking wet but happy! So that should give you an idea of how cool the ride was :) I could go on an on because it was such a great experience and Dan was so great! We just loved it! If you have any doubts srly don't, just book it! It's truly great... I mean what's better than a small (in our case private) tour with a super nice savvy local? Thanks for everything guys! I will be recommending this tour to anyone going to Calgary!

This experience was exceptional from start to finish. Our guides were both knowledgeable and cordial and always made sure to gear the experience to our levels. Not only did we get to enjoy a pleasant and well paced ride, but we even got to stop for a cappuccino and also go to Gilles’ (one of our guides) restaurant for a delightful piece of quiche. I finished feeling as if I had a good knowledge of the bike riding experience that is available in Calgary and a better overview of the city. Overall it was a thoroughly pleasant and educational experience and would make me want to ride with this company again.

What a fun experience! We met at Bow Cycle to get our rentals and to meet up with our guides. We were quickly fitted for our e-bikes by the very knowledgeable staff at the shop and were then on our way with our VeloGuides. We cycled all around Calgary and even got to see some of the neighborhoods that overlook the city. We stopped along the way for a great cappuccino and later stopped for a delicious snack before heading back to the cycle shop. Our guides were wonderful and pointed out sights along the way. As we approached any steep hills they would stop and describe what was coming and the best way to negotiate the area. I haven’t cycled in some time but found it to be a nice ride. Glad they are associated with Airbnb as I likely never would have thought to look in to a bicycle tour. I highly recommend this experience.

The trip was fantastic—a highlight of our time in Calgary. We ride 26 miles on E-bikes that we’re comfortable and provided power assist as needed. They were easy to ride. We had wonderful guides who were friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and we had a gorgeous ride on paths that took us along rivers, through lovely neighborhoods, and provided beautiful views of the city. Also included in the trip were a cute pair of bikes socks, coffee at a great local place, and quiche at a fun cafe that is also a gathering spot for local cyclists. I highly recommend this experience as a way to see highlights of the city with local guides while enjoying fresh air and exercise.
