What you'll do

We will first have an appetizer to have a chat and to get to know each other. I will be together with my 2 partners as we run the hives together.
Then we will have an hour or more of theory about bees and their world: you will understand their circle of life, their duties, how they reproduce themselves, which flowers and plants they do prefer, how bees and beekeepers produce honey, royal jelly, propolis, pollen...
Afterwards we will go in the apiary and open some hives and look at them very closed (with protective gears), understanding some apiculture technics and differences between natural hives and rational apiculture.
To finish this amazing experience we will taste different local honeys and learn how to analyse the different aromas!
Other things to note
You will feel surprised how calm bees can be. Despite so, I would not recommend this experience to people strongly allergic to insect bites/stings.

In summer it can be extremely hot around midday, that's why we will perform the course during the early morning.

I've been introduced to the world of bees around 5 years ago by a local farmer living near my hometown, Rome.
Since then, I felt in love with these incredible insects: I started with 2 beehives in the backyard of my house and after a year I decided to get more and more hives.
In 2017 I decided to take an Apiculture class in order to improve my skills and my knowledge.
Me and my partners are now managing around 100 beehives and the idea is to get bigger and bigger during next years.
I'm a curious person that loves simple things, I love sharing the good moments of life. Spending time with bees is always a good moment for me.
I can assure you will get so passionate about bees that you will think about getting some beehives on your own as soon as you go back home.
My English and Spanish are fluent as I lived abroad for long time.

Consiglio vivamente quest' esperienza!

This experience with Manel was wonderful and extremely informative. Manel was the greatest host I have ever encountered since I first joined Airbnb community in 2014. He is very knowledgeable, caring, friendly and considerate. He didn’t hesitate to spend extra hours with us transmitting his knowledge and passion for apiculture and to introduce us to his bee colonies. He’d prepared for us a wonderful tasting of his high-quality honey with a good selection of local cheese. I highly recommend this experience to everyone who is interested in learning more on wonderful bees and apiculture.

Emanuele offers a seriously and professional in depth experience with his bees and his passion for bee keeping. He is very well informed and the three plus hours that we spent with him flew by. The location has a fabulous view of Orvieto. We strongly recommend this experience for both young (not too young) and old. PS Emanuele sells his very delicious cold extracted honey!!!
