What you'll do

Bio Bay Kayak Tour in Fajardo begins at Las Croabas Park. First, learn the basics of kayaking, safety and the rules of the nature reserve. Then board the kayaks that fit two people. The water is shallow, and at this time on a regular day, the sunset looks great.

The entrance of the Fajardo Bio Bay is a red mangrove channel. The mangrove forest is inside Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. Along the way, you'll see its beautiful protected flora and fauna. The mangrove channel opens into Laguna Grande and into the sunset, where the night will fall and stars will follow in the sky and water. At every stroke of your paddle, sparkles will appear in the water, while the kayaks will create a swirl of light. The place will simply turn magical! The intensity of the glow will depend on the phase of the moon and other nature factors, such as storms and the temperature of the water.

The Fajardo Bio Bay is perfect for watching the stars too. Enjoy the constellations while sitting in the kayak at Laguna Grande. It’s like being inside a vault of lights. Cruise back through the mangrove channel l

We reached out to Alejandro because we were running late 30 minutes prior and he never responded. We got there and we had no idea where to go. Luckily we found the company who helped us out but Alejandro was no where to be found to help guide us or be there. We never received any kind of communication from him at the time of the event.

This is a bit of a workout for anyone that’s never been kayaking before, especially against ocean currents- something to keep in mind. The area we initially met at was quite loud and it was hard to hear the instructions and I felt like we didn’t receive enough instruction on how to kayak. They were attentive during the trip, keeping us on the right path. The time spent in the bio bay itself was disappointingly short and the plankton were cool but it’s not at all like the pictures you’ll see on google. It’s basically glitter. It was a cool experience but short and rather pricy in my opinion.

The experience was not like the photos. We went 2 days before a new moon so it was really dark but we rowed out (which was fun) and then put our hand in the water and saw the sparkles, then rowed back. There was no blues and greens - it was not as amazing as I thought. Tour guides were really nice. But it was expensive just to see a few sparkles.

Overall I had an amazing time. I had a hard time navigating the kayak with my daughter. Eventually the guides came and hooked us up to them to help us steer around. After that my kids and I had an amazing time. I am beyond happy we did this trip

This is such an amazing experience! You and your partner have a glass bottom kayak which helps you see the plankton on your trip back (after it is completely dark outside). You start off in the ocean, go through the mangrove channel, then into the bio bay, where you can watch the beautiful sunset! They bring out traps so that it can instantly be dark enough to see the plankton. After a bit we went back through the mangrove channel. It gets pretty dark so you have to be careful about which way you paddle. Once we got back to shore they had snacks since the tour was a little over 2 hours. Definitely a memorable experience!

Most fun ever. Great guides. Made sure we got the full experience even though it was basically a full moon. Beautiful place and super unique tour.
