What you'll do

We will meet in the conference room of a psychological and behavioral intervention services agency, which is kindly donating its space, for a parent education workshop focusing on the basic processes and procedures of special education. We will take things in logical sequence: 1) the referral and assessment processes; 2) present levels of performance, measurable annual goals, and accommodations; 3) services and placement; and 4) positive behavioral interventions. How all of these components relate to each other, as well as to the science behind educational program design and evaluation and the legal compliance requirements of special education, will be discussed. This is a small group instructional setting of no more than 8 learners per session. I will be using a visual presentation to assist in the instruction.
Other things to note
This is a parent education course for families of children with special needs. We keep our class size small & intimate so parents can feel free to ask questions & content is tailored to the audience.

Meet your host, Anne

  • Identity verified
I have been a special education lay advocate since 1991, a paralegal since 2005, and an educational psychologist and behavior analyst since 2013. I have supported hundreds of students by attending thousands of IEP meetings, reviewing and writing thousands of documents, reviewing and assembling evidence, making the record, testifying in hearing, developing witness questions, co-authoring legal documents, conducting evaluations, and consulting with parents, attorneys, and other experts to develop truly individualized education programs (IEPs) for K-12 students who require special education. Many professionals in this field either work in the legal side or the educational services side, but few do both. I support families and attorneys in achieving appropriate services by advocating for the application of valid science according to the law.
