What you'll do

This experience includes a ticket to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (a $25 dollar value)
This is an intimate group tour with a maximum of five guests.

We will meet in front of the Met 86th and Fifth Ave. I will then take you inside the Met to begin our tour. Before we enter the exhibition spaces, I will give you key information about the artists and artwork, we will view and the historical background as well as an overview of how the artwork was made. You will have time to explore many works in each space before moving onto the next exhibit space. I want you to experience the museum at your own pace and ask questions – but I also don’t want you to miss anything. I will make sure you will leave the experience with an understanding of the artworks and how to approach them and have a better understand of how it was made.

I am a NYC artist, curator, arts teacher, and former arts blogger. I currently show my art in a number of galleries and at art fairs all over the United States. For several years I have shared with the world my views as an artist and creative maker. Sharing my passion for art brings me great joy. Now I am sharing this with people in intimate experiences in the biggest center of art in the world, New York.

Right on time, with tickets in hand, Matt invited us to join him on a personal journey through some of Matt's favorite pieces, sculpture and architecture, all encapsulated at the Met. Lucky for us Matt's palate is as diverse as the Met's collection. Walking through the galleries highlighting signature Amercan portraits of George Washington and the Hudson River school, Matt explained how painting reflects changing attitudes towards its heroes. Well off the beaten track we wandered into the Met's unsung collection of paintings stored behind glass, waiting for their day. Greek, Roman and the Assyrian collection of ceramics, sculpture and frescoed walls was an easy sell, but the astounding room of long boats and totems from New Guinea was simply astounding. Another welcome surprise was a tour of the Met's hidden modern art gallery, a specialty of Matt. As a modern artist, Matt couldn't hide his passion and expertise on every piece in the collection. While some of the Met's European galleries were closed for renovation, there was no shortage of masterpieces for Matt to sample, from medieval to the impressionists masters. There is much to be grateful for when examining a painting with a painter. Matt's appreciation for the creative process and materials and methods (including the art of framing) made this tour especially engaging, and fascinating. I am not new to the Met; I must have been to there dozens of times over the decades. But being with Matt was like visiting again for the first time.
