What you'll do

We will arrive at the Bear Lake Trailhead a little more than an hour before sunrise, and hike first to Dream Lake, to see the first light of Alpenglow of the Continental Divide reflected in the lake. We will then Hike to magnificent Emerald Lake. Along the way, we will capture fantastic views of Glacier Gorge. We will return, with a short stop along Nymph Lake to capture Long's Peak.

The total hike will be a little less than 4 miles, with an altitude gain of about 800'. Please note that the Bear Lake trailhead begins at 9,300' elevation, so if you are visiting from sea level, you probably want to do some altitude adjusting for a couple of days before attempting this hike.

Autumn alternative: During fall color, we will detour to Bear Lake for fantastic color in the quaking aspens!

NOTE: Just because Airbnb has 'paused' experiences and does not allow you to book does not mean the hard working tour guides like myself are not available to give tours. Please find me at Rock Light Photo Tours to book your experience today!

My husband and I had an experience of a lifetime on the Sunrise Hike to Dream Lake with Colin. He is an expert at landscape photography and provided the right balance of helping me and challenging me. The sunrise at Dream Lake was breathtaking and provided great shooting which will provide me with great memories. The photo opps at Bear Lake were also amazing with the fall colors. I would definitely recommend Colin and this tour!

Colin's passion for photography was evident from the outset and that transferred into Colin being an amazing experience provider. Though I have hiked the Emerald lake trail several times, my photos failed to capture the beauty of the area. I jumped at the chance to learn from a professional and Colin did not disappoint. Colin was patient while he walked me through optimal camera settings, he offered interesting locations to shoot from that I hadn't thought of, he broke down composition of photographs in a way that was easy to understand, and he taught me several "Pro Tips" that have instantly made me a better photographer. I couldn't be happier with the professional images we took that uniquely captured the majestic mountains and magnificent lakes of RMNP! I am looking forward to booking future experiences with Colin.
