What you'll do

This night hike takes place at Sloth's Territory is a total trail of 1300 meters, which extends along a natural forest surrounded La Havana River, into a total property of 10 hectares.
At your arrival you will park at the Rodriguez Family's House, owners of Sloth's Territory. Their house works as reception, so it is a meet up point for waiting the start time of the activity.
Right at the moment of your arrival, you will be greeted and welcomed by one of their family (normally Oscar, Keylor or Mauricio and the ones leading the project and the activity).
Since the property is pretty big and it is a long trail, we will take you to the best specific locations to spot animals with nocturnal habits.
Since the activity takes place in a wildlife environment, we can not guarantee you the specific species you will see but it is very common to observe: Centrolenidae (Glass frogs), Agalychnis callidryas (Red-eyed tree frog), blue jeans frog, Kinkajús, raccoons, porcupines, tent-making bats, basilisk, spiders, and some birds.
Another possibility is to watch sloths, but the focus of this activity is to search for another kind of nocturnal animals.
The duration of this activity can be from 1 to 1.5 hours, all depends of the biodiversity we can get each night and depending on weather conditions.

I have more than 3 years offering lodging through Airbnb, most of them as superhost. I love nature and I love to share experiences with different cultures. I found out the Rodriguez family have an amazing and natural property they have protected and reforesting for many years and they were planning to open up to tourist, so I decided to help them out trough my knowledge and being a platform for offering their incredible product to visitor in La Fortuna area.

Where you'll be

Sloth's Territory is the specific location for this night hike, it is accessible for all ages and during the activity, you will have the chance to see different kind of animals in a completely natural environment. Since it is a natural and protected environment, we are not allowed to touch any of the animals, we are not allowed to feed them. Some animals are very sensible, like frogs since they get hurt by the chemicals products in our skin

This was a wonderful experience! Even though it was raining out, we were able to see a lot of wildlife including frogs, American Kibgfisher, toads, spiders, two toed sloths, 3 toed sloths, insects, green basilisks, and Mexican Porcupine! We saw the porcupine smack the sloth! Keylor and his father were our guide for this tour and he was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable and had an eagle eye! If not for him, we probable wouldn’t have seen anything! They even took pictures for us through their telescope which came out amazing! At the end we were given fresh fruit! 10/10 highly recommend!

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our night walk through Sloth's Territory with our guide Kaylor. He was a member of this family-owned business and was extremely knowledgeable about the property, project, and wildlife. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on this particular tour so we were able to go at our own pace and enjoyed the one-on-one attention. During our walk, we saw two & three toed sloths, lizards, frogs, birds, a snake, a tarantula, and a kinkajou. Kaylor was very adept at finding creatures even in total darkness and was very friendly throughout the tour. As a tour guide, it was obvious that he was young and still honing his craft, but with more experience, he will no doubt become an absolutely amazing tour guide!

We had a blast exploring the property at Sloth's Territory. Not only did we get to catch a peek at three different sloths in their natural habitat, but we were lucky enough to spot two porcupines cuddling in the tree tops. Many other creatures were amongst the beautiful sights during our night hike, and together this made for an amazing experience!

We had an incredible time at Sloth’s Territory! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. He guided us through an excellent tour of a mix of primary and secondary rainforest, sharing his knowledge about the many animals that live there. We were fortunate to see almost every animal the tour had to offer, from two and three-toed sloth, to porcupines, king fish birds, toads, frogs, spiders, and other insects. Even a large tarantula made his presence known to us! Even if you didn’t get to see everything, which is never guaranteed, I would definitely recommend this tour. They even provided some delicious local fruits to end our tour.
