What you'll do

You will meet your guides at Ted Sperling Park, the launch site for the famous Lido Mangrove Tunnels. After a short explanation of the equipment and the paddle, we will launch and practice our skills in a beautiful, shallow bay. Karla and Aaron will be on hand to ensure that you feel comfortable. Their goal is safety and fun. Depending on weather conditions, we may paddle to the channel with a goal of paddling with manatees and dolphins. If we do come across them, we will keep our distance and watch them play and frolic. Occasionally, manatees will be curious and will swim up to us. It is such a special experience. Next up, we will head to the mangrove tunnels. We may take a short break at a private beach to stretch our legs before we head into the maze of mangrove tunnels. Your guides will help you navigate the tunnels, pointing out exotic wildlife as you pass. Everyone loves when finding giant hermit crabs and seastars along the way. After paddling though the tunnels and to the hidden lagoon, we will head back to the launch. Your hosts will text photos of your adventure for you to share with friends and family.

Aloha! We are Aaron and Karla, husband and wife team and hosts of this unique experience. We love exploring the waterways—learning about the ecosystem and sharing our passion with others—especially families. Aaron has over forty years of on the water experience through guiding kayak and paddleboard tours, and teaching children surfing and paddleboarding. He is the head instructor in the USA for Association of Surfing Instructors (ASI) and holds the highest level certification for that organization. Karla is a marine biologist for NOAA and holds ASI and WPA certifications. Together they have paddled with 1000’s of people and are patient and kind in their approach. Whether you are an experienced paddler or a first-timer, they will make sure you have fun and are comfortable. We love to share this with families of all ages.

Where you'll be

Once you arrive at Ted Sperling Park, you will be looking for Aaron and the SURFit van. Your guides will be waiting for you, with the equipment ready. Ted Sperling Park is a small kayak launch and is the best and easiest way to get to the mangrove tunnels. The mangrove tunnels are unique saltwater paths that wind their way through mangrove trees and to a hidden lagoon.

Unique & fun experience learning to paddleboard & navigate the inlets & mangroves. I look forward to going again as we didn't see any manatees or dolphins on this particular day.

We had a great time! Aaron was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. I can honestly say I wouldn't have enjoyed this experience nearly as much if we had gone with anyone else!

The mangrove kayak paddle with Aaron was a lot of fun even with the very strong wind and low tide conditions. Aaron is very passionate about his work and enjoys sharing it with his customers. I highly recommend Surfit for your Sarasota paddling adventure.
