What you'll do

We begin with a trip to the Chicken Barn to visit the chickens.

During this time guests will get to pet the chickens and learn about the different parts of the chicken from flying feathers to combs.

Next we will show them how to water the chickens and why the watering systems are made like they are for cleanliness and function. Also we will learn about our guillotine style door system for keeping the chickens safe each night.

Then we will go inside the chicken nesting areas inside. Here we will learn about how grandpaws feeder works and why it is important. Guests will feed the chickens and visit the nesting boxes for gathering fresh eggs right from under the nesting birds. We will teach why the nesting boxes are made they way they are and why the chickens love them so much.

Next we will take the gathered fresh eggs and take them to our unclassified washing kitchen at the big white barn. Here they will be taught sanitary methods for washing and storing eggs prior to use.

Lastly guests will take home a dozen fresh farm eggs for them to enjoy.

The total time on farm is about 1 hour + with tour of the catfish pond and feeding.

My wife Priscilla and I enjoy living on our farm in East Tennessee. We rent our Milkbarn on our small family farm of 30 acres and have been raising chickens for egg production with our children for 15 years. Commonly we spend time showing families the basics of chicken raising and egg production during overnight guests stay and now on AirBnb experiences.

We use the eggs we produce to make our fresh baked goods at our Gelato Brothers Dessert Shops in the Knoxville area.

We are an unclassified Tennessee egg washing facility and have many years experience in chicken husbandry and egg production.

If you have ever thought about raising chickens for fresh eggs and don’t know where to start, the information Shawn will give you at his Chicken Petting Farm & Egg Wash Tour will get you on your way. The information provided is interesting and time tested. He’ll tell you what he has tried and what he uses now. His explanations are simple and easy to understand. On our tour we learned about purchasing chickens, feeding, housing, protecting, cleaning the hen house, collecting eggs and then washing them before heading home with some😊 It was just what we were looking for, information with a lot of laughing as well, in an experience that was about an hour long. The area is beautiful and the farm story is interesting and the chickens are loved and happy! This AirBnb experience is hands on and fun for all ages and after our experience, we feel we could raise chickens ourselves! Book this experience and give yourself and your kids a unique experience! Something you’ll remember and will talk about for sure!

Great experience with Shawn on his farm. We received upclose, hands on experience with his chickens and their egg laying process. Wife and I both enjoyed immensely. Thank You! We are enjoying a delicious Gelato now.

This was a fantastic experience! Shawn instantly engaged our reluctant 3 year old grandson in caring for the hens. Shawn shares his 15 year knowledge of raising hens freely and would love for you to raise your own hens. The farm is beautiful and clean, he hens are well cared for and happy. The eggs you leave with truly taste better. This was our favorite experience!

Visting a "chicken farm" seems kinda lame.....until you actually do it! This was a really cool unexpected experience. "Hands on." "Down and dirty." "Diggin' in the mud." Whatever you want to call it....it totally works! The host (Shawn) is very knowledgable and super friendly. By the end of the tour you want to start your own chicken farm! (Added bonus - the fresh eggs you take with you are amazing.....to the point that'll you'll probably avoid the egg isle for awhile at your local grocery store.) Kudos Shawn! Great time!

Our family of 6 visited Shawn's farm as part of a 50th anniversary week with my in-laws. We had a great time learning about caring for chickens and being involved in some of the process. The location was beautiful and clean (I thought it would be kind of smelly tbh but it wasn't!). We got to catch and hold the chickens, gather eggs and then take a fresh batch home with us. They were delicious! For a group of city slickers, this was a special experience.

This experience was well worth it! If you’re in the area you should definitely do this! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it! We had questions and he answered them and gave advice on every detail of how to manage the chickens as well as eggs. Shawn was super nice, friendly, and very knowledgeable about it all. We want to have chickens down the road and he catered the whole experience to us to help us know what we need to know! Great host and great experience!
