What you'll do

You'll hike on the iconic Table Mountain, following a fun and exhilarating route, far from the madding crowd, that you won't find by following official trail markings.

We'll meet at the Lower Cableway Station just before sunrise. After an introduction and safety briefing, we'll set off on our hike, which starts with a fairly steep climb. As we start gaining altitude along the slopes of the mountain you will be treated by sunrise hitting the mountain crags and slopes, the city and the sea - weather permitting, of course.

After up to an hour following marked trails, we'll leave the beaten track for some off-trail adventure. There are several variations of varying difficulty. The exact variation will be decided during our introduction, or for private experiences beforehand.

On the way up you will be treated to amazing views as we gain altitude, all the better appreciated during our frequent breaks. Here and there the monotony of slogging uphill will be broken by some rock steps that will require you to use your hands to climb up, adding some spice to the experience.

Some four to six hours after setting off, we'll find ourselves on the summit of Table Mountain, where I will safely see you off at the Upper Cableway Station and the experience ends. Please note that this experience does not include your cableway ticket, and in case of adverse weather, we will walk down.

Hi, I'm Lukas the Housecat!

I am a registered adventure guide - accredited to lead off-trail and overnight hikes - with more than ten years of mountain experience; hiking, trekking and rock climbing. I also served as mountain rescue volunteer with the Mountain Club of South Africa.

During my ten years living in Cape Town, I've spent probably too much time on Table Mountain :) Having explored all its nooks and crannies, I've decided to share my insider knowledge with guests by leading adventure hikes on its more remote sections

Where you'll be

The entire experience unfolds on Table Mountain, specifically the northern buttresses. Depending on the route variant, you may visit The Saddle (the neck between Table Mountain and Devil's Peak), or Maclear's Beacon (the true summit of Table Mountain at 1084m). Finally, you will visit the upper cableway station, where the experience ends and you can leisurely stroll about, enjoy the fine restaurant or even sign up for an abseil!

This was without a doubt one of the more exhilarating and worthwhile hikes I’ve ever done. Lukas is well informed and a reservoir of knowledge and stories that really make the entire adventure complete. I would highly recommend this trek with Lukas if you’re thinking about going up Table Mountain.

I'll definitely recommend this adventure! Lukas is an excellent guide; he's outgoing, knowledgeable and I always felt safe on the hike. You'll experience the best of table mountain in an adventurous way and will get exposed to the vast differences in fauna and flora on different parts of the mountain.

We went on a hike up table mountain with Lukas. We went on a route we would never have done without him as the path wasn’t clear but we felt super comfortable / safe, yet also challenged because that is what we wanted. Communicating with Lukas was very easy before the hike and he really personalised the experience to fit what we wanted. It was the highlight of my friends 2 weeks on the garden route and Cape Town so that shows how great it was! Thank you so much Lukas

Lukas is an experienced hiker who knows his mountains and takes safety very seriously. He sent me a thorough questionnaire beforehand to asses my fitness level and designed a unique route for me that both took into account my strengths and weaknesses. I'd definitely go with Lukas on another hike - Table Mountain is vast and there is a lot to explore!

Remarkable trip! Lukas guided us on top of Table Mountain trough Ledges trail. Using this route meant that we would experience this trip more adventurous way than we expected. Because of cable car maintenance we had to walk down, so we had a chance to experience India Venster. Those few hours of hike were also a great space to talk about many aspects of South African reality, and I think that Lukas has a great insight so it was simply nice to talk. In few words - Lukas is a great guide, who cares about safety as well as about experiencing the best of views that you can get on Table Mountain.

The trip was amazing and I can not imagine discovering Table Mountain in more interesting way than we did :) If you are into adventures - you should choose Lukas experience - definitely! Lukas took care of us (especially of me, as there were some challenging moments) and we felt both safe and challenged all the time. Before the hike he asked us some questions and prepared the trip in a individual and perfect way: he have some options of the tracks and he choose the one that suits you the best. In our case that was the unmarked track, so it would not be possible to hike Table Mountain in such an interesting way on our own. Moreover Lukas is a great guide, interesting and open minded person. We felt comfortable talking, walking and hiking with him. Thank you, Lukas! :)
