First off, my guide Kliwan was awesome. Though he is young, he is fantastic at what he does. He was caring and insightful and I enjoyed my time with him. My main complaint would be with the water/restroom situation. I was only provided one bottle of water, which is certainly not a safe amount for this trek. I hike often and never with less than 3 litres of water. The water to buy on the mountain is expensive and you will need cash if you haven't brought enough water. Also, you need cash to use the restrooms. The one in the parking lot is 5k and the all toilets on the mountain are 10k. As others have said, the trail is very dusty... I felt that I should've brought something to cover my face. My guide provided me with the option of an alternate route were the motorbikes did not travel to avoid so much dust, but warned me that it was much more difficult. I was happy to take my chance. It wasn't the hardest hike I've ever done but the alternate did prove challenging. I would not recommend it for anyone who is not in great physical condition. The views from the top were absolutely amazing. Kliwan was awesome in showing me everything there was to see while we were up there. It was a little chilly at the top but I packed a blanket that came in handy and then bought a coffee for 30k. I shared my breakfast with a beautiful dog and even got to see some very well-mannered monkeys that make their home in the crater. All in all, Mt. Batur was a good trek that I had only wished I was more prepared for... bring cash, water and something to cover your face! Kliwan was genuinely helpful and took great care of me, I really can't say enough about him. I really enjoyed his company. When we arrived to the hot spring, it was not at all what I had expected. I hadn't done my research... it is a tourist spot, not a natural hot spring like I had expected... being from the west coast, hotspring is a feature in nature... this place is more like public pools. It was barely 8am and they were already playing loud music as if it were a night club... I didn't not really explore it much and only stayed for about 20mins. The water was more "warm bathwater" than "hotspring" to me which made me a weary of the likelyhood of bacteria in the water. Not for me. I needed up going directly back to my accommodations on my request and skipped the coffee plantation, already been to 2. ***It is likely that you will have to pay extra for transport for this trip. I was in the center of Ubud and paid 350k additional as a solo traveler.*** In conclusion, I rather enjoyed the mountain and my time with Kliwan, totally worth it. I would've liked to have known that water would not be supplied so I had the option to buy ahead and come better prepared. If I hadn't brought cash, I wouldn't have been able to use the restroom and I feel that should be mentioned prior. The amount for transport, even as a solo traveler, was very overpriced. In 6wks of traveling all over the Bali, this was the 1st time I paid over 300k. The hotspring is just not the "club vibes" that I want to walk into at 8am and I would've preferred a different option. And I'm sure the plantation would have been lovely but I was over it at that point.

I highly recommend this trek with Komang we wouldn’t have been able to do any of this alone. We took it slow our way up (our preference) had an amazing breakfast and saw the sunrise and ran down the mountain (our preference). Good conversations, amazing hot spring and my favorite memory of Bali. Don’t miss out on this!
