What you'll do

One of the largest and oldest villages on the Ounasjoki river, Kaukonen is a lively and pleasant village. Kaukonen has modern infrastructure, yet the village has also been declared a scenic landscape area of national importance.

We will start Village Tour from Mummola Travels courtyard. Main red log houses are build 1865 and 1910. You will also hear the history of our home farm. Our family is the 6th and 7th generation at the farm to continue the history.

In 2014 our family moved back to my husband Kimmo's birth home to Finnish Lapland. We were excited to explore the nature and surroundings and got again charmed by the everyday life in the country side. I learned about the people and history of the Village of Kaukonen.

We want to share these special stories and history about or Village of Kaukonen and tell about Finnish culture for travellers from all over the world.

Where you'll be

Village of Kaukonen is located in Kittilä, 13o km from Rovaniemi. Ski Resorts Levi And Ylläs are only 40 min away from the Village.

At the end of the Lapland War, as German troops were retreating, they famously destroyed a large number of buildings in Lapland. Kaukonen is one of the best survived villages and has many old traditional log buildings still standing and telling the history of the village.
