Where you'll be

A protected micro-habitat, the Cactus Sanctuary has been set up to be an environmentally protected area within the Sierra la Laguna mountains , a biosphere which scientists call "The Galapagos Islands of Mexico". You will learn about the unique interrelationships that exist in Baja California.

A newly developed tourist destination, El Triunfo feels free of the touristy vibe of Los Cabos and other towns. Amazing food, history and local culture.

We (my 12 year old son, husband, & myself) loved afternoon with Bill exploring & learning about the area. The cactus sanctuary was amazing and we absolutely loved experiencing Triunfo & learning about the unique history of this charming former mining town. We never would have found these unique spots without Bill. Bill was knowledgeable, personable, clearly passionate about what he’s doing, and an all around great guide. We combined this tour with his morning nature walk tour for a full day excursion and it was a perfect day.

This was a great morning outing for us which really helped us sink into the Baja experience after having arrived the day before. There is plenty to look at during the driving portions and Bill provided an engaging commentary the whole way. We had a great time looking at cacti along with birds and butterflies. El Triunfo is a fascinating town and the small museum is world class. Our stop at the elegant tea room was really enjoyable, even more so because Bill treated us to a short piano concert. This outing included a real variety of experiences - I liked them all and I think there would be something here for everybody. Bill has a great knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, this area - it's culture, history and natural environment. Would recommend this tour for anyone.

Bill met us in town and we set off on a day trip to explore both a cactus sanctuary and the unique former mining town of El Triunfo. The cactus sanctuary isn't a place we likely would have discovered on our own, and Bill has such a passion for the wildlife of Baja. After exploring the cacti, we headed to El Triunfo. We went to the excellent museum, and then afterwards visited a piano museum, and a Victorian tea room, where we had the most delicious cake and Bill played some amazing piano music for us. We had time to walk through the town, stop at the bakery, and explore the old ruins. What makes you fall in love with a place is the passion that the people who live there have for it. Bill is clearly passionate about Baja, both introducing its wonders to visitors, and also in preserving its endemic species and traditions.

This is a great tour for people interested in wildlife and who want to learn about different cactuses. Bill is flexible enough to adapt the experience to the group's interests. Visiting the music museum was fun, especially when Bill sat down to play jazz piano tunes while we were wandering around. The town of Triunfo is full of history and Bill's knowledge about the town was excellent. Although we didn't have time for lunch, the cafe looked great and the bread we bought was delicious.

Bill is a terrific host. He’s very passionate about plants, wildlife and nature. It was our second visit to the cactus sanctuary but with Bill as our guide we got so much more out of the experience. We saw many cactuses, succulents, insects and birds. We even had an up close experience with a coast horned lizard. Exploring El Triunfo was a great addition to the trip. Bill’s informative narrative brought this old mining town to life and his personal connection to the area was fun to learn about. It was a great time and we would do it again.
