What you'll do

We’ll be performing Kabuki Buyo:Japanese traditional dance, which originated from Kabuki. I’ll show you how to wear a yukata, a type of kimono. After we’re all dressed up with our yukatas, we’ll go out to enjoy lunch. We’ll go to a soba (buckwheat noodle) or chinese restaurant nearby if you'd like. During lunch, I’ll decide on a cultural topic for our dance from the platform which I run, or my life story :why I'm dancing and what I want to do now. After lunch, we’ll start dancing. Kabuki dance has its roots in Kabuki traditional drama, which has a strict rule that it should only be acted by males. However, Kabuki dance is for everyone and is more casual. It's fun, so let's learn together.

Kabuki Buyo is also called Nihon-Buyo or Nichibu in Japan. It's Japanese traditional dance which originates from Kabuki. I'm a Kabuki Buyo dancer. My mother is a first-class dancer and I’ve been dancing for over 25 years. Now, I teach the dance too. I think it’s so beautiful. I would love to teach you how to dance Kabuki Buyo. And I'm running a website, which introduce Japanese cultures by performers. The website is WAMONOBITO (https://www.wamonobito.com/). We would love to tell everyone charms of Japanese culture.

Where you'll be

We’ll be in our training quarters, which have a large wood stage and a tatami room (a room lined with traditional straw mats). We’re lucky to have such a spacious stage and you’ll be training on the same stage that’s used by one of the top Kabuki dancers.
