About your host

I run a small cafe restaurant and cycling shop in Asakusa, where we have long held "Fish Days" on Tuesdays and Fridays for our customers. I have a special connection to the wholesaler at the old Tsukiji market, and New Toyosu market where I go to buy fish for this event.

What we’ll do

We'll start at the new Toyosu—the world's largest fish market. We'll then go to the outer area known as the Tsukiji old market and Tsukiji Uogashi, a new building with fish-selling areas, including a background area that is off-limits to ordinary tourists. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The new market is so huge it will seem like we are viewing a factory. We'll go to the Tsukiji old market after that and enjoy comparing the two marketplaces.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at Shijo-Mae Station, on the Yurikamome Line, and go to Toyosu, the new market. We'll then visit Tsukiji, the old outer market and walk around the fish-selling area. Afterwards, we'll take the subway to Asakusa to visit the Sensō-ji Buddhist temple and go to my shop, where we'll transform the fish into sashimi.
