What you'll do
On this tour of Berlin behind the scenes, we'll start in the ‘Palace of Tears’ (hearing the story behind its sad name) and follow the fading traces of the Cold War to a spot where East and West were divided for decades. You'll discover the city's university quarter and explore the site of the notorious book burning of 1933. After this we'll stroll through Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site dripping with world-class museums and I'll tell you the legends of the queens of this island. We'll walk into the Jewish Quarter, stopping to admire the beautiful New Synagogue and learn more about Berlin’s Jewish heritage, including tales from its Jewish population from 1933-1945. We'll stop at one of Berlin's oldest bakeries to sample a Berliner- a traditional German delicacy, before meandering through the hidden back streets of former East Berlin, getting a glimpse into Berlin's traditional tenement houses, where thousands of workers once lived under extremely trying conditions. We finish this tour at Bernauerstrasse, where you'll experience the real and the 'virtual' Berlin Wall as it was between the 1960s and 1980s. Prepare to be blown away!
