About your host

Aloha! My name is Kai! Kai is the Hawaiian word for the ocean or the sea. I’m a surfer and open ocean swimmer. I’ve competed in many ocean swims on Oahu and the Big Island. I surf almost everyday and I love to teach others to surf or swim safely in the ocean. I’m a former lifeguard, swim instructor and swim coach. I’m also certified in CPR and First Aid. What we’ll do

Meet and greet guest at beach. Land lesson: Go over basics of swimming or surfing in the ocean. Including safety, gear, how to pop up on the board, how to fall, a little about ocean currents/tides. Ocean lesson: Swimming: gage level of guests swimming with a short review of freestyle, breaststroke, breathing techniques and survival back float. Take guest on a 500 or 1000 yd shallow water…

What else you should know

A light meal or snack smoothie/dried fruit only before activity. Bring water and recovery drink (Gatorade) for after. Be rested and consume no alcohol prior to activity.

Equipment
Surf gear: Foam 8’ surfboard, ideal for learning and ankle leash, wax, sunscreen. Swim gear: cap, goggles and fins if needed

What to bring

Swimsuit, swim or surf trunks, rash guard or spring wetsuit, booties

Where you'll be

An Oahu beach ideal for swimming or surfing. All beaches will be city and county lifeguard staffed.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside of the Airbnb website or app.

Guest requirements

Up to 2 guests ages 18 and up can attend.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.
