Tony is an experienced entrepreneur and artist and he puts a lot of effort into putting together the trip and pinata-making. His demo is very clear and well-instructed and is a great intro to pinata-making. The food was fantastic and I got to see different areas of the city. My suggestion to Tony would be to make the trip more about Mexican culture and pinata instead of being self-centering on his success and connections. There could be research into the history of the districts and pinata. In addition, the pinata-making area did not happen in studio but rather under a highway right in front of a tshirt factory. It seems like Tony is still testing out different setup of the experience, but I do think having a more formal indoor space will make it more professional. I personally would recommend my friends just taking second day of the trip - walk around, taste some food, and get your hands dirty on making pinatas.

This experience was fun and unique. We learned a ton about Mexican culture and art. Tony, the Piñata king was personable and welcoming. He showed us around the art district and the piñata district. We had LOTs of great Mexican food. And of course we made piñatas! Tony showed us the whole process, from chipboard to a finished piñata. We then each decorated our own piñatas. We carried the piñatas on our plane back to the east coast. Many people in the airport gave us big smiles when they saw the piñatas. As the Piñata King said, he makes piñatas because they make people happy. We felt very happy when we brought joy to others, even just by carrying the piñatas in the airport. We heard many people say to each other, "look! Look! Piñatas! :)" Definitely recommend this experience to anyone, especially those who are looking for happiness. :)

Tony's Pinata King was the first Airbnb Experience I have taken so far. As a disclaimer, I would like to say that I am an employee of Airbnb writing this review. Both my cousin and I attended this 2-day immersion in Northeast Los Angeles. Both days were incredible and gave us an inside peek into Mexican American culture in El Serreno and the heart, Downtown LA. If you are love food, art, and culture this is the experience for you. Chef Jorge and Connie at Hecho en Mexico took really good care of us the first night and we all shared a 4-course meal, family style. Great choice of ambiance, service, and food! Our second day was equally as good except my only concern was that the experience was a tad bit too long. I would recommend shaving it down by an hour or two. Other than that, I loved discovering the Pinata District & learning how to make a pinata. Tony was a great host and has a wealth of knowledge about LA. I'm excited for Tony to get his studio to get his pinata making workshops up and running.

Full disclosure: I'm an Airbnb employee in San Francisco. I booked the piñata-making experience as part of a personal trip to LA. I am so glad I signed up for this. The first night we had an amazing traditional dinner at a restaurant called Hecho in Mexico, which I will definitely be returning to. The next day we met up and walked thru a market place, had delicious street food, then went to the unofficial Piñata district, which was an awesome experience in itself. Then Tony drove us to his studio where we learned how piñatas are constructed and were able to decorate our very own piñata. I highly recommend this experience if you have strong interests in Mexican culture, history, food, the art community in LA, or you just want to make something with your own hands.

Tony is the spirit of east Los Angeles. Danny and him shared a very local and special experience with me and my mum. It felt like an old friend showing you around his favorite things. That trip transformed the trip for us from normal touristy things into something special I will always remember with mum.
