Riding and rambling since my first BMX bike in 1983, I’ve supported pro racers and kids in training wheels all in the same day. But I prefer the more interesting path, not necessarily the fastest.

Being a keen road cyclist, this seemed like a great activity for a vacation, and I wasn't disappointed. We covered 27.4mi at a very leisurely 9mph pace - so it's suitable for everybody - 'no sweat'. The bikes provided were new, or almost new, and all the equipment was in excellent condition. For the most part, we were on paved roads, with a mile or two on dirt roads. The experience is pretty unique - it's not everyday you get to see the Everglades and the wildlife from this perspective, but it does get hot - so high factor sunblock is essential. James and his support team were great at providing a narrative along the way and even suggested some places to try in Miami itself. Snacks and drinks included at the end were very welcome and hit just the right spot. Would recommend for anybody that likes being outdoors and fancies something off-the-beaten-track.

James and his friends, Brian and Gary, took us on a half day cycle in and around the Everglades National Park. Very casual. It was right up our alley - getting the 'back story' so to speak from locals. Loads of interesting tidbits because the guys have been cycling the trails for years...and yes we saw alligators! - But they tailored made everything for us so everything, including the pace, felt comfortable. Very considerate. I would highly recommend.

We enjoyed this bike ride because it gets you away from the hustle of the city. For the majority of the ride, it was just us & nature. We enjoyed exploring the Everglades & seeing wildlife in its natural habitat (alligators, birds, fish). James really puts you at ease. He went out of his way to make sure we had a good ride- adjusted the bikes to fit properly, provided helmets, water & snacks. James is very approachable & we had great conversation along the way. Two of James' friends came along, and they were full of stories about the Everglades & Miami as well. We rode 30 miles, but it was definitely doable, especially with a few stops to explore. The bike ended with a stop for lunch (tamales & fresh squeezed watermelon juice- so good!). I would recommend this tour if you're looking to explore the outdoors & see a different side of Miami.

Riding 30 miles on a variety of terrain in Everglades National Park with James and his friend Brian, we didn't see another human for hours. Instead plenty of Alligators, turtles, snakes and many many birds kept us company. I am not a birdwatcher, but this ride just about turned me into one. James was a fabulous host who took excellent care of us and perfectly gauged our riding skills and stamina. The bikes he provided were in pristine condition and fit us perfectly. If you love being out on a bike, I can not imagine a better way to experience Florida's amazing flora and fauna in a fun, active way than this. Thanks again, James. Totally wish we could do this every weekend! :)

More tips

Wear bike clothes - not necessarily spandex, but something you can sweat in comfortably, and padded shorts beneath boardshorts if you want to be more modest. If you’re in cotton T-shirts and cutoffs, you’ll probably hate all of us by the end of the trip. Closed-toe shoes are also a must.
Bring pedals and clipless shoes if you have them, and we’ll be happy to install your pedals for you.
Don’t forget UV blocking clothing and/or sunscreen given we’ll be exposed to lots of sun.
Pack a little towel and dry shirt for the farmer’s market afterward.
