What you'll do

When you arrive you'll meet all the ponies and hear how they came to be here. But you can meet them even before you arrive by going to my Facebook page Putting in the Magic. There are currently 10 ponies here. Most of them have suffered severe abuse. Amongst others, you'll meet Frances, found tied to a tree being stoned by children. And Ella, who was being ridden by a child at only 2 months old. Bon Bon,locked up in a barn with 30 other ponies and left to starve. There are many jobs you can help me with. You'll groom the ponies, wash their tails, pick out their feet and bring them for a short walk to accustom them to walking on a lead rope. Depending on the time of year you might pull up ragwort from the paddocks and scrub out the water baths. Some of the ponies are very nervous and you'll get the chance to try out your communication skills by getting them to engage with you. You'll learn things you never knew about ponies as I share my knowledge and experience with you. You'll also be able to buy the books I've written about the ponies, as a lasting memento of your visit. You'll go away feeling enriched by having spent time with these little ponies and I and the ponies will be left feeling enriched by your visit. I fund the sanctuary out of my own pocket, I receive no government funding. Every cent you spend on my Experience goes to the care of these ponies.

I'm the founder of a sanctuary for abused ponies in Tramore, Co Waterford, Ireland. I have 9 ponies at the moment. Most of them are Shetlands, ranging in age from 3 to 30 years old and from 29 inches to 56 inches high. I'm an experienced rider and worked as an Equine Massage Therapist for 25 years before I retired to devote myself to this work. Most of these ponies led lives of utter misery before they came here and I am passionate about creating a safe environment where they can regain their zest for life and trust people again.
