My mom and I had a wonderful time! Sam and his wife were lovely and generous hosts. Sam was very thorough with explaining the culture behind the art, and he really took the time to get to know us so we could create beautiful and personal pieces. It was over an hour drive from our hotel, but it was well worth it. We will absolutely do it again when we come back to Hawaii. Highly highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic, personal, and unique experience! Thanks again☺️

This was a great experience! Not only was it fun to learn how to carve the experience came with an opportunity to reflect on personal values and to weave those into the story that the design tells.
Sam was a great teacher and guide through the whole process and his love and passion for what he does is felt as he teaches.
I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique way to spend and hour and a half learning a new skill that is both challenging and fun at the same time.
Thanks, Sam, for crafting this experience and sharing your love for story and carving with us all!

About me
Māori artist and carver
Since I was 15, I was fascinated by Tā Moko and whakairo, the art of Māori tattoos and carving. That fascination led to selling and sharing my art all around the world. I realized later on that my strong interest in carving wasn't just in the beauty of it but also the process of learning and sharing stories. In my culture, we have done this for centuries.
