Watch Calcutta wake up Magic hour tour

Kolkata, India

Experience hosted by Soham

What you'll do

Every morning, before the sun is up; the light sensitive Neon street lamps of Calcutta go off just when there is enough light. We call this time the Magic hour, and what better way than to see a city when it's waking up. We hop on to the first tram of the day as the city enters the enchanting Magic Hour. The trams, which used to be the king of the roads, still rule the streets during the magic hour. Trudging through the sleepy 300 year locality of Calcutta in full throttle (Tram/Bong Speed), the next few hours are spent visiting some local hidden spots around the oldest part of the city.
Before the bustling giant city wakes up we’d have used all the iconic transport modes of Calcutta, enjoyed sights that are just ignored in plain sight, had breakfast by a hidden hole in the wall with an extraordinary view, gossiped about Bengalis and Calcutta in general, learnt the meaning to “Adda” and lot more about being Bong. The “unguided tour” as we call it is wrapped up savoring Chai (tea) in a bhaad (earthen cups), the best sweets of Calcutta and finding our way through the winding streets back, to the place where we began (the tour we mean).Calcutta capsule for more reviews.
Other things to note
Uber/App cabs are available all through out the day/night. Please contact us in case you need further assistance booking a cab to the meeting point.

This was a very special way to experience Kolkata, and I’m so glad I woke up early to do it. We travelled all over town, but it somehow all felt relaxing and leisurely. Soham obviously put a lot of thought into this tour, sharing interesting stories and history and beautiful spots. I highly recommend his tour. Thanks again, Soham!

Soham's magic hour tour was really special. The theme of watching kolkata wake up, the different modes of transport we used, the special locations (like the hole in the wall cafe with a view of the howrah bridge) were all highlights. i liked how well he knew each part of the city we went through. I also liked the fact that it wasnt a tick box of one tourist attraction after another. All in all, highly recommended.

We absolutely loved this experience. Soham is a great host and is really knowledgeable about the city. The tour was filled with beautiful sights, interesting stories and a few surprises along the way. We enjoyed every bit of it. If you are in Kolkata, do not miss out on this experience.

What a magical tour! If 'experience' is about feeling like a local and understanding new culture, Soham's program is what you need. Not only he knows Kolkata by heart but he also is a fantastic host. You'll not feel like he's a tour guide but rather a new friend you meet. Soham knows all the 'secret' places that probably are not mentioned in any guidebooks. It's worth for you to get up early in the morning and spend magical hours in Kolkatta with Soham. Make sure you put his tour in your itinerary when visiting Kolkata.

Was a great tour, absolutely nothing to complain about. You won’t regret booking this tour and get up early for it. Even though we were not lucky with the weather it was amazing. Definitely one of the best tour guides you can get. Although I came 20 minutes too late and he couldn’t reach me, they were still there waiting for me, million thanks again for that !!!
