What you'll do

We will pick our gests up at 6:30 am at Dorado Plaza (Address: Calle 26 # 85D - 55). Around 8:00 am my friend Andrea Cárdenas or I will start our tour in the PARQUE NATURAL CHICAQUE with the 'MIST FOREST' which shapes our high-andean ecosystem; we will walk through ANCESTRAL PATHS built by indigenous communities more than 8 centuries ago and will learn about its historical importance. Then we will arrive to the core of the park known as 'EL REFUGIO', which is both, a restaurant (in which you will have the chance to have lunch) and hostel where we will have a fantastic view of the MAGDALENA VALLEY as well as the chain of mountains of the COLOMBIAN ANDES. Then, we'll keep going towards the high-rise waterfall, typical of the park. There is a zip-line, as the most extreme activity to do in the park (It has an additional charge). During the tour we will be able to see different species of plants and threes, birds, insects and small mammals which live in the high-andean ecosystem. I also will tell historical information about the ancient paths and promote the guests to keep their own trash and to take trash that eventually they could find on the ground, in order to keep the park clean. The total distance of the hike depends on the multiple paths there are in the park, ranging from 8km to 14km. When we leave the park we will end the trip back to the meeting point (Dorado Paza).

I'm Carlo and love hiking, exploring unique and marvelous places. I've been organizing hiking tours in natural parks during the last 2 years with an average of 4 to 5 participants, by my own and by my tour guide partner, Andrea Cardenas; now I want to share this experience with people interested in eco-tourism. I have a first aid certification of two years, issued by the Red Cross in Colombia since october 30th, 2019. I always assign a maximum of 5 guests per hiking guide, to keep exclusivity of the tours I orginize. In my opinion, the best way to know nature is to walk it as much as possible and to take care of it along with safety practices, respect to norms and being aware of the value and richness that mother earth offers to us.

Where you'll be

We will visit the NATURAL PARK CHICAQUE, near to the rural area of the town of Sohacha and about 1 hour by car from the meeting point in Bogota. It is very important that participants of the experience arrive on time at the meeting point to evade wasting time because of the heavy traffic, specially after 7 am. The later participants get to the meeting point, the less time of hiking there will be.

More tips

The hike is demanding, so it requires you to rest enough the previous night and have a good breakfast the day of the tour. I assign a maximum of 5 guests per hiking guide, to keep exclusivity of the tours I organize. The traffic between Bogotá and Chicaque is a factor that may yield 1 up to 2 additional hours of the experience, in case of traffic jams. Then, it is very important that participants arrive on time to the meeting point. I have a first aid certification of two years, issued by Red Cross since october 30th, 2019.
