What you'll do

Experience local culture through food & photography

We'll start at a local bakery for a Mexican pastry before heading toward the famous Bushwick Collective, a street art gallery stretching over 10 blocks. You'll learn about the artists and the history of graffiti. We'll also walk beyond the walls of the Collective, exploring other outdoor art missions. From there, we'll continue on toward Brewer's Row, a historic street of 19th-century breweries now covered in amazing murals. Along the way we'll pop into a raw chocolate shop for some samples, ending with a beer (own expense) at the former Edward B. Hittleman Brewery—now a hip bar and events space—which made “near beer” during Prohibition.

I’m a native New Yorker and professional photographer. I also run two travel blogs—Jessie on a Journey and Epicure & Culture—and have contributed to publications such as CNN, USA TODAY, and Business Insider. When not getting lost with my notebook and camera, I love taking dance classes, finding local hikes or bike rides, and finding the best spicy cocktails in NYC. Fun fact: When BBC Travel came to NYC for a TV segment I was their tour guide!

We’ll visit an unassuming Mexican bakery, the Bushwick Collective, a raw chocolate factory, and a former 19th-century brewery-turned-craft-beer-bar for a local brew.

This experience is a hidden gem, much like everything we saw along the tour. Jessie knows Bushwicks history, artists and culture better than anyone I’ve met, which makes this an ideal tour for guests who are visiting as well as for locals who are looking to learn more about their neighborhood. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Jessie was a knowledgeable and friendly guide who also sent us photos after the trip - providing a great memory of a memorable day. We enjoyed the art, learning about the artists and the history of Bushwick as the former home of Beer Brewers attracted by the good water. While the street art and industrial history were fascinating, we also enjoy the breaks for snacks at the bakery, beer and cheese and cured meats shop, and the unique chocolate factory. Altogether a well organized, friendly enjoyable tour which adapted to our interests and preferences. Thank you Jessie, for giving us a wonderful guided tour and terrific experience!

Jessie was F***ING AWESOME. She seriously knows her way around Bushwick/Brooklyn and she brings a fun, history, and good conversation to the table. Im a loner traveler and it ended up being just me and her and I couldn't have asked for a better day. We met at this fantastic Mexican Bakery that was like taking a step back in time. We adventured around Bushwick while she gave me a history lesson, told me about each street artist and a background story to each art piece, all snapping some professional photos of me (in which Im using for my blog!). I learned so much from her, such as the difference between a "tag", a "two-y", and a "piece". Her tour was awesome and she went above and beyond to provide a rich experience. I HIGHLY recommend her!!
