What you'll do

This two-hour workshop is designed for beginners. We will take a brief look at the history of Najeon Chilgi—the Korean wooden lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

Made from the shining, unchangeable beauty of pearl oyster or abalone, mother-of-pearl is smooth, iridescent, and is considered to be the jewel of the orient.

The traditional Najeon Chilgi technique is complicated and takes a long time. During this workshop, we will use a technique that cuts the mother of pearl and we'll stick in these pieces to decorate a wooden plate, or a handheld mirror like a little mosaic. I will also have prepared the pre-cut pieces of shell, which will be easy to stick.

All materials and tools will be provided and you will be offered a choice of different designs. Of course, you can also bring an image if you have one in your mind.

You will enjoy a well-deserved drink after you've finished creating your masterpiece, which you'll get to take home with you.

-Other things to note-
•The shape of plate will be varied depends on its supply.
•Please be informed that we have stairs in the place, sorry for any inconvenience.
•Let me know if you’re allergic to cats -We have quite shy one in here (so I’ll make sure he’d hide inside as he usually do).
•I’m vaccinated with Pfizer FYI, still be wearing face cover all through the workshop.

I studied design and ceramic art in South Korea and the United Kingdom. Currently, I teach painting and crafts in Seoul, and I also do some personal art projects. I would like to share the pleasure of making something by hand, and the respect for craftsmanship, with my guests.

Where you'll be

This workshop will be held at my home, where my family have been living for about 20years. It's not a fancy studio, but it will give you a good chance to peep into the real life of Seoul.

It was a special experience. We are conducting a course tailored to each person. If you think about the design in advance, you can make more attractive works!

This was such a unique experience. I learned a little bit more about Korea and the history of this unique art form. Ina was very informative, helpful and patient as I don't always feel confident in my art abilities. This was such a beautiful experience. Thank you!

We had a fantastic time with Ina. This is truly a rare opportunity to experience a highly niche work of art. Ina has come up with a wonderful program that allows newcomers to create pieces of art with a high degree of personalization and completion. We were absolutely thrilled with both Ina’s explanations and guidance as well as the finished product. Highly recommend! 한국에서만 발견할 수 있는 한국의 예술작품을 만들 수 있는 특별한 경험이였습니다!
