What you'll do
You'll begin by changing your clothes into an iaigi, the clothing worn by samurai. You'll walk into the dojo—the training room—and I will show you samurai ritual forms and etiquette. You will learn about courtesy and samurai, and then you will learn how to hold a sword and how to handle it by using an unsharpened katana. We'll learn about a meditation called "zazen" in a Japanese-style meditation room. In order to use a real sword your mind and body should be one. Finally, you will have the opportunity to use an authentic katana to slash down a makiwara—a padded post used in sword blade trials. This samurai experience is one of the most exciting and special cultural activities in Osaka. Furthermore, you will be provided with a short video of yourself wielding a katana to have as a memento of your experience.
I was born and raised in Japan. I have studied English in the United States and Australia. As I have lived in and outside of my country, I've learned how a cultural experience can affect one's life. I have a dan for iaido, a martial art that uses a Japanese sword. I hope many people from other countries feel fabulous through this samurai experience.

Where you'll be
We'll be in a place for practice called a dojo, which has a lot of space to swing a sword. There will also be a meditation room for the zazen. At the end, you'll go into the samurai studio for the sword trial and later, get a video of yourself. In general, Japanese people don't get the chance to wield a real katana. However, here you'll be able to slash the rolled up straw makiwara and get the exhilarating feeling from cutting it.
