What you'll do

Let's create your own art with flowers and plants

If you are serious to explore Ikebana world, I strongly recommend this experience. You are welcomed to Mika's home and learn the spirit of Ikebana intensively.

After taking a walk in a typical Japanese shopping street, we'll arrive at Mika's home. You’ll start to learn from the fundamental skills, how to hold scissors and how to fix flowers with special apparatuses like a spike-pin holder. At the beginning you’ll arrange the basic fundamental flower style with looking at the special diagram, then you will challenge to reach out the spirit of Ikebana, creating your own art work by the gentle guidance by Mika. Ikebana is regarded an art, like drawings, music, and sculpture. You invest your ideas and emotions into your work. To express something through flower materials is our goal. Afterwards, we’ll appreciate each work over a relaxing cup of Matcha tea and traditional Japanese confections. The small class sizes (maximum 6 students) ensure an cozy atmosphere

This was my first time trying an Airbnb experience and I went with a friend. We had one other person join our class, so our group was small. The class was so intimate and lovely. As a short introduction to the art of ikebana I think it was great! Mika was generously answering all our questions and explaining everything very easily. I picked up a few tips and tricks for flower maintenance and care as well as a deeper understanding for the art of ikebana. And we had a lovely chat about more than flowers after our arrangement - so nice. Highly recommended for flower enthusiats!

Mika is not only an expert in her field, but she really knows how to engage people in her teachings. She provided all of the materials and resources for learning more beyond her class, and I would highly recommend her if you want to have a try at ikebana. Not to mention she is extremely kind and hospitable too!

My husband and I LOVED our time with Mika. I cant recommend it enough. She is an exceptional teacher and person. After meeting us at the station and showing us her fun and creative neighborhood on the short walk to her home studio she started with a short history of ikebana plus some interesting facts and little stories about her own life and being Japanese. After this she demonstrated how to make 2 different kind of arrangements each, followed by a typical tea ceremony and sweets. We had a blast and came away with a deeper understanding of the Japanese way. Was for both me and Hanno one of our top experiences in our month trip to Japan. So much so that I decided to continue classes back in South Africa with some local teachers there. Thanks Mika!
