What you'll do

Print and bind your own notebook in a paper workshop

We will start this hands-on workshop with a basic intro to the ancient Japanese marbled-paper printing technique, suminagashi. Then we'll move on to bookbinding for the second half of our time. We'll begin with a visit to our beautiful bookbinding studio and publishing workspace. Then you'll learn about suminagashi. You'll use traditional methods—floating and manipulating sumi inks on water—to create beautiful and completely unique prints on paper. Then, during the second half of the workshop, you'll use your printed paper to design and hand-bind your own notebooks. All notebooks and paper prints can be taken home to keep for yourself or give as special gifts.

I am an artist and designer. I have been living and working in Berlin for the last 10 years. My work has been featured in many international publications, and I have taught workshops all over Europe. I studied print design in Brighton, England, and fell in love with suminagashi printing as an art form after traveling throughout Japan. I love to share this stunning, meditative form of printing. It's so much fun.

I work with artist and bookmaker Rada Nastai. She recently had her work in MoMA within the last Art Book Fair, she publishes artists-books and produces them from design to binding.
