What you'll do

Affectionately known as the ‘Culinary Queen of Goa’, I have delved into the influences that the Portuguese occupation (17th century) have left in local kitchens.
In this interaction through a demo and tastings I will share the history behind the food How did these curries and masalas reach the traditional Goan table? The participation and the one on one interaction will create a great experience and with recipes shared at the end to explore the nuances of ingredients used.
These are traditional grandmother recipes passed down through generations. The Inspiration behind these Goan favorites of seafood and during monsoons...meat….the red, yellow, orange masalas will be a mouth drooling experience.

Where you'll be

A glass of wine or juice as I recount all information on the 'how and why' of the recipes from old grandmother's kitchens, you savor the traditional flavors from the other talukas of Goa. Take home memories and stories .it is yours to question...myth of fact, the demo is in a modernized kitchen. We sit out in the garden, otherwise indoors to eat together at the end of the experience. I’m a foodie and I loved this experience with Odette and Joe. We went through the history of Goa and how that has impact the cuisine. We got hands on experience helping to make the Fish Caldin Curry. All in all, Odette was a gracious and patient host, very knowledgeable and personable. I think she has more than earned the name “the culinary queen of Goa”.

So highly recommend this unique experience. Odette and Joe have incredible knowledge about Goan culture and cuisine given their family's culinary history, from Joe's Dad's time as a Chef at the Taj and Odette's experience as an award-winning writer and food critic. Each meal was accompanied by wonderful stories and perspectives. Definitely do not eat before so you have plenty of room to enjoy all the delicious meals which include appetziers, mains and dessert. I did not have a meal like this anywhere else in Goa, such a thrilling afternoon spent in another part of Goa.

Before arriving to Odettes I thought I might have some idea of what to expect since I'm already a fan of her books. In person, Odette is even more charming and knowledgeable than I imagined. Both she and her husband Joe warmly welcomed us to their beautiful house and made us feel very comfortable. The food was above and beyond what I was expecting. I knew it would be good but I didn't count on it being one of the nicest meals I had in Goa. Delicious and delicately flavoured, you could easily taste the individual components, nothing was overwhelmed by heavy masalas. Her knowledge on Goan cuisine and its history is immense, I look forward to coming back again in the future and learning even more. She has truly earned her title as the Culinary Queen of Goa.

Odette is an exceptional host, her knowledge of 4 different kinds of Goan/Portuguese cuisine is surpassed and her book is a bible. The experience was memorable, we tasted traditional Goan Christian food, Sorpotel, Fried fish recheado to name a few, paired with a especially curated local wine and port(curtsey her husband Joe) and talked for hours. A real pleasure to have been part of this event. Odette is using her infinite knowledge and research, to keep Goan cuisine alive. A must for anyone visiting Goa.
