I had the pleasure of booking a tour with Mr. John Alexander. He covered 800 years of history in about two hours. In addition to information about the city’s history, each participant received bits of information or facts that were of personal interest to them. The atmosphere among the group of strangers was quite friendly and informal. During the tour, John pointed out details about the city that I suspect even the locals aren’t aware of, even though they pass by these historical landmarks every day. What impressed me the most personally was John’s interpretation of the historical facts related to the city. He neither exaggerated the remarkable moments nor downplayed the negative facts. He tried to present history as neutrally as possible, while making sure to hint at what people’s worldview was like in those times and what kind of environment they lived in, both locally and globally.
