What you'll do

Challenge yourself trail running on the stunning South Downs

Escape the city for a while, contact me to discuss dates and times that meet your needs.

After introductions and a warm-up, we'll go for a trail run through the beautiful South Downs National Park—one of the UK's newest national parks.

You’ll challenge yourself along some beautiful and varied paths, including the forest to the East and the open spaces of the West. I will also take you up Butser Hill, one of the highest points on the South Downs, where you'll experience some amazing views which stretch for miles.

There will be plenty of time allowed to catch your breath, make conversation, and take photos.

If you’re new to trail running don't worry, I will provide tips and tricks on running styles, mind games, breathing techniques, and mastering difficult terrains on the way.

If you'd prefer to hike the South Downs then check out my other experience.

Where you'll be

We will base our experience around Queen Elizabeth Country Park, which is centrally located on the South Downs, just 60 miles south of London.

The country park covers over 2,000 tranquil acres and has around 20 miles of undulating wood and downland trails to explore with amazing views to enjoy.

It was a great experience for me and for my partner. Mark adjusted the hardness of the run and made it suitable for both of us! I definitely recommend such an experience as it charges you with so much positive energy! Will be back soon again. Thank you, Mark!

After reading both of Marks books, I was delighted to finally meet him & put a face to the name.. Mark was friendly & extremely conscientious of what I was looking to achieve from the session.. Mark is an knowledgeable Runner with vast experience, helping me to correct my running style, which felt awkward at first but towards the end of the run, I felt like I was floating like a butterfly, Mark offered lots constant positive encouragement all the way round, pushing me enough but not too much.. In fact I ran further with Mark up & down trials / hills ( which I hate) than I have any distance this year.. On completion of the run, Mark treated me to warm tea & protein bar & gave his own time in talking to me on how I felt it went... Tips on stretching & lengthening of the muscles which is something I often ignore.. I would thoroughly recommend running with Mark regardless of you current running level.. I felt I've achieved so much from just one session, I've already booked up again...

What a fun challenging way to spend a Saturday morning with a welcoming knowledgeable guide. We were a small group of mixed abilities but Mark tailored the experience so that we all took something positive away with us. He ensured that slower runners were not left feeling they were holding people back but he also managed to include some more challenging and technical terrain for the more experienced runners. Mark provided tips and motivation as we ran and the morning concluded with a chat over some snacks and homemade cake. The South Downs is a beautiful place to run and explore, Mark is a fantastic guide to show you around. Highly recommended.

It was definitely scenic and there were very definitely hills. It was a lovely chance to meet some other runners for a gentle chatty morning of running. Our group had slow runners (me) as well as much younger/fitter and faster ones but I never felt uncomfortable being the slowest. After a run round the woods of Queen Elizabeth Country Park we went up to the top of Butser Hill; steep but worth it for the views and the lovely run back down to the car park where Mark provided some very welcome post-run refreshments. All in all a very good morning.
