What you'll do

Honey is a remarkable food and ingredient. The taste, viscosity, colour and aromas are linked directly to the floral sources available to the bees. In this gourmet food tour you will join a local food and wine enthusiast, beekeeper and bon vivant on a honey tasting, overview of the lifecycle of a colony and then suit up and visit a beehive!
The honey tasting provides a unique insight into the different tastes and textures created by Hamish’s bees and a diverse range of floral sources. Hamish harvests his honey using the Flow Hive system which allows you to take small amounts of honey at a time without disturbing the bees. We get to taste honeys collected weeks and sometimes days apart and compare them. All of this alongside leaf tea or plunger coffee, freshly baked scones and award winning jam. By building our knowledge of these important pollinators we are helping build a sustainable future for the bees and for all of us.

You will need fully enclosed shoes to be able to do this. During winter (April - September) we don't open the hives but get up close to observe the bees coming and going and view them through specially designed glass hive windows.
Although the group size is limited it is possible to host a larger group; I simply bring along another beekeeper and they will open another hive. Likewise you can request a date. @bowralbeekeeping

I am a keen beekeeper and got my first hives at school. I love my bees for their work pollinating the food we eat, their environmental impacts, through to the fascinating way they communicate and interact. And they make awesome honey! I am a strong advocate for inclusion, the rights of LGBTIQA people and acknowledge that these experiences take place on Gundangara lands and that sovereignty was never ceded.

Hamish is super passionate about his work and it makes his workshop shine! Also the workshop is structured really well, Hamish makes it seem effortless but clearly a lot of planning and refinement has gone into it. Definitely check this out if in Bowral.

If you're anywhere near this experience, you need to do it! It was honestly so insightful and fun and my husband wouldn't shut up about all the things he learnt. Hamish went above and beyond to make sure we all had the best experience possible. Do yourself a favour and check this out!

This was our 1st experience with bees, and was magnificent. So much information and so well done by Hamish. His enthusiasm is contagious and the bees, by the end seem like family. I love honey & it was a great place to start. Can only recommend this experience.

Such a great experience! We got to try different honey types and enjoyed a lovely morning tea prepared by Hamish himself (the scones and blackberry jam were a winner!). Hamish was amazing. He knows his stuff well and he is so passionate with what he is doing. It’s pretty inspiring to meet someone with that level of passion and love for something.

My husband and I along with 2 friends attended Hamish's beekeeping course. Hamish's knowledge and very personable approach, along with the delicious honey tasting made this a very memorable experience. We all can't wait to get our hives :)
