What you'll do
Ready to eat like a local? With that, we will whisk you away from the main tourist hot spots for Hong Kong food tours (I’m looking at you Mong Kok) and take you to my own neighbourhood, Whampoa, where no tourist has gone before. Truly off-the-eaten path and a hidden gem for tourists, but a known thriving food hotspot for the locals. Eating your way through Whampoa like a progressive meal, you will learn about the 5 flavours in Chinese cuisine - sweet, spicy, salty, bitter and sour - and you'll be able to taste them all as well. We will go to 6 different tasting locations so eat light before this food tour. 1. Drink BITTER tea and learn why we drink it 2. Try a local favourite bowl of noodles with SPICY broth 3. Try the most common trio of Hong Kong street food w/SALTY soy sauce. Here's the catch the fish dumplings are made from scratch, a rarity in HK. 4. Taste some Hong Kong style skewers with a SOUR drink at the late-night joint 5. Devour a SWEET & SALTY Hong Kong style crepe that is only available in this neighbourhood 6. Finish everything off with a refreshing SWEET traditional dessert with an interesting background story Eat through HK's culture, history & traditions. Along the way, you'll visit the last female Mahjong tile carver in HK, the most famous Kwun Yam temple, & a waltz in the backyards of private & public housing estates. Wok n roll with us!
I'm Virginia & I run a local food tour company called Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours in Hong Kong (HK). Sound familiar? We took Foodie Youtuber Mike Chen from Strictly Dumpling around for street food. https://youtu.be/iFhqs3AyTAY How we wok n roll! We want tourists to see the real HK, thru food. You are going to eat through HK's culture, traditions & history. HCFT is a small team of guides - Virginia, John, & Kelly. We're bi-lingual (Cantonese & English). We make sure to go to the real mom & pop shops which are decades-old, & several generations passed down so you can hear all the great stories behind the people that cook the food.
