What you'll do

Hi, I'm Capt Tim, let's go fishing! You will meet me at my marina, a short drive from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and San Juan vicinity beaches. After a safety discussion we will board my Mako flats boat and begin your 4 hour fishing adventure. Keep in mind I offer morning and afternoon trips, contact me and we can discuss options if you'd like an afternoon trip. On the boat we have a cooler with ice, your preference of soft drink, bottled water, raincoats, sun screen SPF 50 and bug spray will be provided along with the fishing tackle of your preference. Our target species is Atlantic Tarpon, commonly referred to as the "Silver King". The average juvenile fish caught is 10 to 15lbs and you may see and hook up with adults in casting distance weighing over 100 pounds! You can fish traditional spinning or fly tackle. I will provide you with proven light tackle options or locally tied flies for fly fishing. The use of your own tackle is available and no experience is necessary as I will assist and coach you throughout the day. All fish caught will be safely released. When your charter is complete we will return to the marina we departed from where restrooms and a shaded pavilion with ceiling fans are available for your use. Have you ever cast a fly rod? Want to try? I will provide one and we can work on it together if you are interested.

Timothy

I am Capt Timothy and after retiring from the US Coast Guard in 2016 I founded Chasing Tarpon, where I guide inshore fishing charters in the calm, no sea sickness to worry about lagoons of San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am a licensed Captain by the USCG with 25 years of US Coast Guard experience in maritime safety, navigation and vessel operations- so while your on my boat your safety is my highest priority followed by you having an amazing day on the water. We fish only artificial baits, so you make the cast, you set the hook and you reel it in! I am a Fly Fishing and Light Tackle specialist with decades of saltwater inshore experience. Beginner to Pro, all have an outstanding opportunity to catch fish and take home pictures and videos to show off their catch. The Tarpon love rain so we fish rain or shine and I provide raincoats.

Where you'll be

Once underway we will transit Blasina canal, a mangrove lined waterway where I often see iguanas sunbathing in the trees, a caiman resting in the bushes or slow moving manatees. Occasionally an iguana will swim right in front of the moving boat! From here we will enter Torrecilla lagoon and begin fishing. We will also transit Suarez canal and slide under a 4ft tall bridge as we enter San Jose Lagoon, the largest lagoon as we continue fishing.
