What you'll do

A "trail ride" starts with grooming the horse, then a brief demonstration on tacking (saddle and bridle) the horse. You're encouraged to participate, but it is optional. Once saddled up, we'll go to the arena for a short warm up and to get the rider acquainted with the horse and go over basic riding commands in a enclosed space. Once the rider is comfortable, we then hit the open trail for about an hour exploring the rock formations, rolling hills, and oak trees on the 50 acre property. I will stay with you the entire time providing guidance and instruction. A trail ride is a lot of fun or if you are thinking about getting into horseback riding more seriously is a great way to find out if you're going to like it. Riders must be at least 6 years old to ride alone. We can accommodate younger riders but they would be led and stay in the arena.

A "lesson" would start with full instruction and participation in tacking and grooming the horse. We would then cover how to lead the horse, how to properly mount and dismount, and basic riding commands (turning, stopping, backing up, etc.). Once the rider feels ready we can move on to trotting and galloping, both in the arena and around the ranch. After the ride, we then un-saddle, brush, cool down the horses, and feed them carrots!

*All riders must sign a release of liability to ride and any activity with the animals.

I am thrilled to offer this experience for trail riding and riding lessons at my ranch/Airbnb. I have been riding horses professionally and for pleasure for the past 40 years. I have experience teaching children and adults. I have three very capable horses and accompany all my guests on the trail rides and I have a round pen/arena for giving lessons. I am happy to teach horse care and maintenance, tacking up, and also teaching specific skills.

I have competed professionally in team penning and sorting and worked with children my whole life. I taught all of my children to ride and now I am teaching my grandchildren.

The area around the ranch has plenty of available trails for riding and I take pleasure in offering a totally unique experience.

If this sounds good to you, visit Rancho Cielo Azul.

Where you'll be

Boulevard is very rural, rocky high desert landscape one hour east of San Diego. The riding will take place on my ranch, which is 50 acres of natural landscape with my large southwestern adobe style home. You will also be able to visit the other animals on the property, chickens, goats, turkeys, and cows.

There are a couple other small towns, a candy shop, and a casino nearby.
