What you'll do

We’ll explore the entirety of U.S. history in just about one hour. This history will be told through the history of the University of Notre Dame. In the process of this walking tour (participants must be able to walk about 1/2 of a mile during the course of this journey) you will learn a great deal of American history (or be reminded of that history) and see how Notre Dame connects to the great American story. This is a rare opportunity to travel the history of Notre Dame in a humorous way and walk through our lovely campus at the same time.

I am a professor at the University of Notre Dame who regularly teaches courses in American Studies and in the minor Education, Schooling, and Society. I hold a Master’s degree in Environmental history of the United States and a Ph.D. in American History with specialties in race and gender. You can learn more about me at: www.brianscollier.com . Lastly, I’m a winner of the Joyce Award for undergraduate teaching and this history of America told through the history of Notre Dame promises to be humorous and informative and will catch all of the major landmarks of Notre Dame as we go.

Loved Brians explanation of what makes great. It really is a magical place and Brian went over history and has a way of conveying how ND came to be the special place it is today. I would recommend the tour to everyone, even if you think you know ND. Fantastic!

Flexible and funny, Brian gave us rare insights into the intersection between Notre Dame’s history and national politics. Despite being ND alums, we did not know a decent amount of the information we learned. He was flexible with our kids and even helped push our daughter in her stroller while we looked inside the log cabin.

Great private tour of Notre Dame with in-the-know information from an expert! It felt very customized, as we could ask our own questions. Highly recommend the tour!
