What you'll do

Visit the Mornington Peninsula which is just over an hours drive from Melbourne’s CBD. It is famous for its various, bay and open-sea beaches, walking tracks, many scenic sights and stunning sea views. It also has wonderful wineries, historic sites and cafes.
The area formed part of the Boonwurrung Indigenous nation's territory prior to European settlement.

Pick up is available from your Melbourne city hotel or at an agreed location. The air-conditioned luxurious vehicle will then take you to the Mornington Peninsula.

I will introduce you to the The Briars Park Wetland Walk near Mount Martha and discuss the indigenous history. I will provide a morning tea with a cake and tea/coffee in the adjoining restaurant where we can exchange stories.

Next stop is the stunning cliff top “Millionaires Walk”. This is situated near Sorrento and has historic significance as it was the first time the English Union Jack was used to claim possession of Australia.

Lunch and a wine will then be provided at a nearby historic, cliff top hotel where we can rest and discuss the local history.

Following this we will head for Fort Nepean. The Fort includes a tour of the military forts and tunnels. There are views of spectacular coastline, coastal tracks through moonah woodland to explore and native wildlife to discover.

After this I will drive you back to your hotel.

Anna took me on a great tour of the Mornington Peninsula, expertly discussing all of the sights and attractions. The itinerary was generous and flexible. In the morning we went to Millionaires Walk, which has many private beach-side mansions, which are located between a fabulous back beach and the bay. The views were stunning and a great photo opportunity- especially if the sun is out. Point Nepean National park, which is on tip of the Peninsula, was incredibly interesting, especially Fort Nepean. We had an easy walk around Fort Nepean and I learnt much about its history. Lunch was at a relaxing restaurant, which had stunning views of the water. Following lunch, we visited a local winery, where I enjoyed the views and the wine tasting . I would highly recommend this tour as it takes you to places that the larger travel companies cannot. I will be planning another private trip with Anna early next year.

This is an incredible tour that could go on for 10-12 hours no problem. There is so much to see and do south of the city that it's hard to do all of the things you'd want to do to feel like you really got to know and "did" the area. Greg and Annie picked us up at the hotel right on time and off we went. Friends of mine had told me Sorrento and Portsea were must visits and while the rain poured down for a good part of the day, we were able to stop in to have a coffee/tea and snack before heading out to do the Millionaire's Walk. This is a fantastic start to the day as you get a bit of exercise with a stunning view - it must only get better in the sunshine. We visited the Fort and quarantine area next and as a huge fan of Outlander, I was thinking of Claire as I read about the ships coming over with a variety of health issues - small pox, fever, flu, typhus, foot and mouth. And while I'm not much a military aficionado, I did like walking through the bunkers/tunnels - though the capitalist in me thought why doesn't someone incentivize more people to visit and learn some history by converting the bunker into a wine cellar/bar and some of the rooms into a brewery so that there is some money coming into this place to spend on upkeep, restoration and additional information placards/audios. So five hours had past already and we still wanted to go have some lunch with a gorgeous view and drink some wine that this valley is known for. Next thing you know it's like 5-530pm and while I didn't want anymore to eat or drink, we were really enjoying the company. I could have lounged around and then went out to dinner with Greg and Annie but seriously - we all would have needed to spend a night out there. I know I'll need to come back in order to shop around the two towns and visit the hot springs I'd heard about, but next time, we'll be stopping in to visit Greg and Annie as friends we just want to catch up with over a bite and bottle. Even my companion thought they were longtime friends of mine for most of the time we spent together today - that is until we told him different. Go - have a great time - you'll leave with new friends as well.
