What you'll do

Pick-up at the back of the station in Bruges, during the +/- 45 min drive to the St Sixtus abbey in Westvleteren, I will enlighten you about what makes Belgian beer so special and tell you all about our rich history of abbey and trappist beers.

You can view the outside of the abbey (it's not open to the public) and you will taste one of the three Westvleteren beers in the adjacent building across the road. You will also have the chance to buy a max of 2 six packs of the world famous Westvleteren beer (not included in the price, price for a sixpack is 23 EUR and is based on availability, so not all beers might be available at the time of visit).

After the tasting we pay a visit to the St Bernardus brewery taproom and bottle shop (beers not included in the price) - between april and sept you can also see the hops grow in the hop field next to the brewery. On days that the taproom is closed, I will take you to a nice and cosy pub nearby where you will also be able to taste the St Bernardus before buying it.

After that, we will drive back to Bruges and during this drive I will give you some recommendations on where to taste more wonderful beers in Bruges.

I am a professional beer sommelier and have been working in the beer industry breweries for the last 2 years. At the moment, I work for a brewery in Bruges. I am passionate about beer and want to share this passion with as many people as I possibly can. In 2015 I also founded my own company that provides beer tastings for companies, organisations and individuals both in Belgium and abroad. I also sell beer packages and provide beer advice concerning the beer menu at pubs, bars and restaurants. I teach future zythologists at Syntra West Bruges and Roeselare. So if you are looking for a unique adventure in the wonderful world of Belgian beer, look no further!

Wow, where do I start? This was a truly an unforgettable experience that we could not have had without Katie's guidance and expertise. First, Katie made the trip so easy. From providing transportation to multiple locations, a personalized gift bag, and expert knowledge; everything felt organized and carefree, allowing us to just savor the experience. The value of what you get out of this trip is just amazing. Both the value of the delicious beer and the people and places you see. The second location in particular made us feel like locals and gave us a feel for the friendly beer culture. It was a hidden gem we would have never found on our own. We were given ample time to relax and enjoy every sip and each moment. We left the experience feeling cared for and like we made a new friend. Not to mention we walked away with some of the most infamous and sought after beer in the world.

Katie provided a splendid tour ! It was so interesting to listen about unique brewery of Belgium, so many details, tricks and amazing simplicity at the same time. The most important thing is that you do not feel like you are a member of a guided tour but like a friend who is listening to stories from another friend ! Thank you very much! Highly recommended! Now it seems I know something about beer but will definatelly need second trip to Bruges ;)

Wonderful time with Katie was my favourite part while visiting Bruges. She knows almost everything about belgian beer, and Belgium in general. She has fluent English and chatting with her was like we knew each other for many years.

This is the second experience i have been on with wonderful host Katie. After a visit to the Westvleteren shop en taking time to try the beers we went to our next stop. The visit to "De helleketel" pub in Watou was very memorable. A pub that has been in the same family since 1895. It was like entering a time machine, the inside has not changed for decades. The landlady is very friendly and full of stories. She surprised us twice with fresh bread and french cheese on the house. Again an afternoon well spent. Looking forward to other adventures with Beery Bruges... :-)

Fun experience. The beer and food are of course good. Katie and bonus host Patrick were very nice and great hosts. The small bar is very cozy and quite unique.
