I've been living in Colombia for a few years now and I've spent a long time learning about the history of the country. I felt the history and perspective of women was missing from a lot of the tours and museums I went to, so I've spent a lot of time researching and collaborating with local guides to tell some of the lesser known stories of the Candelaria.

We'll begin the tour at the monument to Policarpa Salavarrieta, one of the heroines of Colombian independence. Harriet was an amazing and friendly host. We learned and saw about the colombian women’s history, the important history that we don’t learn at school. Women whose stories are hidden and people like Harriet help bring to light. We had a powerful experience!

Harriet gave me a wonderful tour around the La Candelaria neighborhood and had a wealth of knowledge on the area and about women that fought for independence in Colombia. Harriet spoke English and Spanish very well. Harriet provided both factual history and stories on the main women who fought for independence. There was time for pictures and the chicha tasting was very good. I highly recommend this tour to others as it is very unique!
