What you'll do

That Dam History Tour departs from Jake's Landing in Lexington, and from there, we head out on the experience - The tour includes stories of the building of Lake Murray, including the unique process of building one of the countries largest earthen dams, the significant role the area played in the war efforts in the 1940's, and insight about the 10 communities that were flooded to create the lake, along with stories of what exists UNDER the lake. After spending some time checking out the 200 foot high dam itself, we then head to an area known as Bomb Island, where you learn about Col. Jimmy Doolittle and his raiders, who trained at the lake, prior to their mission following the Pearl Harbor attacks that led us to WWII. We then cruise to Liberty on the Lake, where you will find a sweet discount on some awesome food and beverages before returning back to Jake's.
